About Us:

Emerge provides essential services for families escaping violence, including:

  • Crisis support and accommodation for women and children through our secure refuge and community housing.
  • Strength-based case management for women and children.
  • Advocacy and holistic support for families navigating systems and resources.
  • Research to build the evidence base for early intervention and prevention strategies.
  • Therapeutic support to assist recovery from trauma, including arts therapy, play therapy, infant wellbeing, and dyadic support.

About the Role:

Are you passionate about supporting women and children escaping family violence? Join our team as a Family Violence Support Worker and play a key role in creating a safe and empowering environment.

This role offers a mix of client support, operational duties, administration tasks and community engagement. You’ll be responsible for running engaging weekend programs for clients, including children, focusing on activities like craft, cooking, and sports. These programs are essential to fostering connection and providing a sense of normalcy during challenging times.

In addition to weekend duties, you’ll contribute to the day-to-day operations of the refuge, ensuring facilities are well-maintained, preparing units for new families, managing donations, and coordinating purchases. Your work will be vital to the smooth running of the refuge and the wellbeing of its residents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide flexible weekday and weekend support to women and children escaping family violence.
  • Facilitate weekend programs, including craft, cooking, and sports activities for clients and children.
  • Oversee refuge upkeep, including maintenance, cleaning, and unit turnovers.
  • Manage donations, purchasing, and inventory for refuge operations.
  • Ensure compliance with OH&S standards and participate in safety training and activities.

About You:

You are a compassionate and resourceful professional who thrives in a fast-paced, operationally driven environment. You’re organised, a skilled multitasker, and passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of women and children.
Essential Skills and Experience:

  • At least 2 years of experience in family violence support or a related field.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills to engage with clients, colleagues, and external stakeholders.
  • Experience with trauma-informed or family violence practice.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Current Working with Children Check.
  • Valid Victorian Driver’s Licence.
  • Clear National Police Check.
  • Willingness to undertake additional training as required.
