About the Opportunity

Central Australian Women’s Legal Service (CAWLS) is looking for a Full-Time Clinical Education and Support Officer - Domestic Violence based in Tennant Creek, NT.

This role focuses on implementing clinical guidelines for culturally safe domestic, family, and sexual violence (DFSV) practice within Tennant Creek Hospital and reports to the Education and Policy Manager.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the implementation of NT Health Clinical Guidelines for culturally safe DFSV practice
  • Contributing to building capacity of DFSV and CSA interventions through training delivery
  • Working with the CAWLS Education Team to embed principles of the NT Government Risk Assessment and Management Framework into health practice
  • Contributing to the provision of a secondary consultation service
  • Supporting ongoing evaluation of NT Health Clinical Guidelines and the Local Link pilot program through data collection and compilation

Why Female-Identifying?

Our work at CAWLS is deeply rooted in addressing issues specifically affecting women, and your role will directly and predominantly involve supporting professionals to empower women and girls in identifying and responding to domestic, family and sexual violence.

This requirement is consistent with the exemptions under the Australian Sex Discrimination Act, where gender can be a genuine occupational qualification, particularly for roles involving empowerment and support of a specific gender (Sections 30 to 43).

Additionally, this position aligns with the Act's provisions for 'special measures,' which support affirmative action for women in employment and employment advertising as part of legitimate affirmative action programs.

About You

To qualify, you will need a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant health discipline, social services, or law and a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAA40104 or TAE40110) or equivalent. A minimum of substantial experience operating within the DFSV sector will also be essential. Postgraduate experience in providing contemporary advanced clinical services responding to domestic, family, and sexual violence with a comprehensive understanding of culturally safe practice is also required.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Familiarity with and experience implementing the NT DFSV Risk Assessment and Management Framework
  • Experience delivering training to the health sector
  • Previous experience working in a specialist DFSV service
  • Understanding of the health service sector and the legal sector
  • Experience working with people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) / Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds

As our ideal candidate, you will possess well-developed communication, interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict management skills that will make you succeed in this role, as well as a personal commitment to reflection and self-care to build resilience and minimise the impact of vicarious trauma.

This is a vital role in a supportive and inclusive workplace dedicated to making a meaningful impact on the community, and we are looking for someone who shares our passion for creating a safer future for women and their children.
