The Foundation is an international development organisation working to prevent blindness and restore sight. We continue to carry on the legacy of Professor Fred Hollows, who believed every person had the right to quality eye care, no matter where they live. Over 30 years The Foundation has grown to work in more than 25 countries throughout Africa, South Asia, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and the Pacific, as well as in Australia. We have an ambitious five-year strategic plan that aims to take us even closer to realising our vision of a world in which no person is needlessly blind, or vision impaired and Indigenous Australians exercise their right to sight and good health.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Foundation is growing rapidly with ambitions to continue this trajectory, multiplying impact as we embark on a new strategy, expanding internationally whilst transitioning to greater localisation. There is a transformation agenda as we define the target operating model and ensure we align across people, processes and systems. The People & Organisational Development (POD) Director is accountable for ensuring that The Foundation’s people and security practices enable the effective implementation of The Foundation’s strategic plan. The POD Director is also responsible for working collectively with the CEO and Executive Team to articulate and maintain an organisational culture that enables the achievement of The Foundation’s strategic aspirations.

ABOUT YOU

You will be an experienced Human Resources professional looking to join a fantastic team and take it to the next level! This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the implementation of this strategy in 2024 and beyond. You will be a dynamic leader with a strategic mindset, able to influence and guide decision at the highest level. You will be people focused, able to create and foster collaborative and productive relationships with internal stakeholders and external organisations. Further, you will have strong financial acumen, and ideally have experience managing global budgets across currencies. This will be combined with strong knowledge of organisational design, culture, workforce planning, recruitment, remuneration, HR systems, performance and development, talent management, retention and engagement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Acting as a trusted advisor to the CEO, Board and Executive Team.
  • Facilitating the design and implementation of the organisation’s target culture and operating model in collaboration with the CEO, Board, Executive Team and Senior Leaders and role modelling to the highest standards, The Foundation’s culture, values, leadership standards, policies and procedures.
  • Designing and implementing the People Strategy in collaboration with the CEO, Board and Executive Team to enable maximum impact, alignment and delivery of The Foundation’s strategic objectives.
  • Proactively collaborating with the Business Operations Executive Director and Business Operations Directors to ensure seamless operational support is provided across the global organisation including leading the salary and headcount component of the budget and forecasting processes and managing the POD budget.
  • Ensuring effective people and security practices through the maintenance, development and implementation of appropriate policies, systems, and processes to meet statutory and governance requirements, manage risks and keep pace with best practice solutions to support current and future organisational requirements.
  • Developing and delivering Management & Board reports that enable the Board and Executive Team to be kept appropriately informed on people-related activities and participate in Board and Committee meetings as required.
  • Coaching and developing the People and Organisational Development team, to continue a culture of business partnering across the global people team and ensuring that leaders are appropriately advised and receive exemplary support, as well as timely and accurate information, to assist them in making well informed and appropriate people decisions.
  • Enabling the People and Organisational Development team to keep on top of the latest trends in people management and workforce design, maximising the use of technology and innovation to achieve maximum impact.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

  • Leading and developing an international People team and working with the Executive Team to govern appropriate management of a global workforce.
  • Leading organisational wide change programs and influencing cultural shifts.
  • Guiding an organisation on appropriate people practices and executing them through strong collaboration, effective communication and leveraging positive relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Addressing Board and Governing Committee level issues.
  • Utilising technology as an enabler of engagement with a global workforce.
