Volunteer and Human Resources Coordinator (Paid Position)

  • Remuneration: $30.22 per hour + superannuation (General Retail Industry Award - MA000004)
  • Expected start: ASAP

THE EMPLOYER

The Food Co-operative Shop is Australia’s oldest food co-operative. It has been our mission to provide food for people, not for profit’ since 1976. We operate a membership owned and run bulk food store, community hub, catering service, events space and popular cafe. We aim to increase access to affordable, local ethical and sustainable products, support the production of local produce and promote environmentally and socially just living.

YOUR DUTIES

Volunteer Management

  • Acting as the main point of contact for volunteers, both new and existing
  • Ensuring the Co-operative can function through maintaining, expanding, retaining and coordinating volunteers
  • Communicating updates and conducting regularly check-in with our wide range of volunteers
  • Engaging volunteers (i.e. through round tables, surveys or feedback sessions) to identify key issues and review processes
  • Facilitating and organising regular (approximately monthly) meetings with Co-op Coordinators and (approximately quarterly) operational meetings for all Volunteers to attend
  • Acting as a liaison between volunteers and the Board. Attend monthly board meetings
  • Oversee general runnings in the Co-op while on shift
  • Facilitating an inclusive work environment that enables safe access to all members of our community. This includes working with disability support organisations, continuing efforts to create a culturally safe environment for First Nations community members, finding solutions to potential barriers volunteers may face to participating in Co-op activities
  • Potentially taking on responsibility for running marketing campaigns, social media content creation and producing communications products (i.e. newsletters) and events

Legislative and Policy Compliance

  • Update and maintain job descriptions
  • Advise on employee and volunteer contracts
  • Develop and uphold the Workplace Health and Safety policies and procedures of The Food Co-op, in line with relevant legislation
  • Draft and advise on HR and volunteer-related policy to ensure compliance with relevant legislative frameworks
  • Work with Volunteering ACT and other external stakeholders to further develop the Co-op's HR and volunteer frameworks
  • Implement and develop new volunteer management policies to increase volunteer retention, efficiency, satisfaction and safety

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Understanding of, and ability to apply relevant legislation governing employment, volunteering and workplace health and safety
  • HR and volunteer management policy development and implementation experience
  • Volunteer management and coordination experience
  • Events and Marketing experience would be a bonus, but by no means necessary
