Tipping Point Finance Campaigner

Friends of the Earth

In 2023, the Move Beyond Coal movement, alongside our partners, was successful in stopping a $1 billion syndicated loan to Whitehaven Coal from a range of Australian and international banks to help facilitate their coal expansion. As a result, there are no Australian banks financing Whitehaven Coal. In 2024, we’re building a dedicated team of activists around the country to continue targeting Whitehaven Coal’s expansion plans by highlighting the financial and reputational risks to all Joint Venture Partners, private investors and international banks which are financing, partnering or arranging finance for Whitehaven Coal.

We are looking for an experienced campaigner to join the #RiskyBusiness campaign team, working closely with the Move Beyond Coal volunteer movement and partners across the climate movement to help us stop Whitehaven Coal’s dangerous expansion plans.

This role will require you to work closely with diverse partners and volunteers across movements to:

  • Create, drive and implement strategies to deliver pressure on corporate targets and win
  • An understanding of campaigning, strategy and how power dynamics shape efforts to achieve lasting change. Ideally, successful candidates will have experience working in a change-making context and having delivered successful campaigns themselves.

  • Manage risks associated with campaigning on large corporate targets
  • Manage budgets and assist Tipping Point with fundraising

Tipping Point

Tipping Point’s mission is to stop the mining and burning of coal and gas in Australia. We are justice centred, people powered, disruptive, momentum driven and we work to build the power of leaderful directed networks to remove key pillars of support that prop up the coal and gas industries, creating space for just solutions including a rapid and fair transition to renewable energy and land rights for First Nations people.

We believe that climate change disproportionately hurts the most marginalised people in society — including people of colour, people from working class backgrounds, women and LGBTQI people. We believe that these communities must be centred in the work we do. Hence, we strongly encourage applications from people with these identities or who are members of other marginalised communities. We are a national project of Friends of the Earth Australia. For more information: www.tippingpoint.org.au
