About the Opportunity

The position is funded by the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ), as part of the Targeted Early Intervention (TEI), Community Strengthening Stream. Services within this program stream, aim to connect members of the community, experiencing or at risk of experiencing vulnerability, with the broader community and strengthening the community as a whole.

The program’s target group includes vulnerable children, youth, families and communities. Priority Groups include refugees, migrants, CALD communities, social housing tenants, grandparents and single parents.

About The Role

The role of the Community Strengthening Co-ordinator is to work strategically to deliver programs and activities aimed at strengthening individuals and the community as a whole, in line with the Centre’s service agreement.

You will foster, develop and evaluate initiatives and opportunities within the community that engage and empower residents, improve service offerings, increase service capacity and reach, and build community capacity and resilience. This includes program planning, coordinating, leading community events and partnering with other organisations to improve outcomes for our clients.

The role requires strong planning and solid organisational skills and the ability to work collaboratively with the community and stakeholders and build positive relationships to support the delivery of the program. A thorough understanding of community data collection and analysis is important and so is the ability to maintain program accountabilities.

Program Focus

  • Programs with a focus on education and skills training, community engagement, social participation and capacity building.
  • Implementing key recommendations in the Community Needs Analysis Report 2024, that align with the TEI service agreement
  • Assessing and developing strategies that Increase access to services for disadvantaged and vulnerable groups including CALD community members, women, children, families, young people and children.
  • Working strategically in the broader community and building collaboration with stakeholders to achieve outcomes for the community in line with funding agreement
  • Developing Outreach opportunities in the community
  • Maintaining a strong volunteer base to support the delivery of the TEI Program
  • Establishing a Greenacre Interagency to bring local services together to discuss and address local issues.
  • Enhance and maintain strong program visibility in the community

Selection Criteria

Essential:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work / Community Development OR other relevant degree, plus significant community experience 
  • Demonstrated experience in the development, management and evaluation of community programs 
  • Proven planning and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated success in building and maintaining strong community networks and stakeholder relationships
  • Good understanding of community data collection and data analysis 
  • Knowledge of funding and experience with funding applications 
  • Experience with budgets and budgeting 
  • Ability to engage effectively with all cultural and faith-based groups 
  • Proven experience recruiting and managing volunteers
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Emails and social media platforms 
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team 
  • A current NSW driver's licence

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with TEI Programs
