BACKGROUND

The NSW Greens are looking for a campaign assistant for our Sydney Federal Election Campaign.
The role is part-time. The role will be responsible for supporting the implementation of a dynamic local campaign that will connect with the community and strengthen support for progressive politics.
The role will report to the Campaign Coordinator. It will support the Campaign Coordinator and the Sydney Campaign Committee, which is a volunteer committee of Greens members responsible for setting campaign direction and overseeing local Sydney campaigns.
If required, the role will work closely with the Sydney candidate, volunteers, MPs and other Greens staff. The role will also engage with community groups and activists on local and Federal issues, particularly around housing and climate justice.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with the implementation of an integrated campaign strategy with the volunteer Campaign Committee
- Assist with the implementation of a Field Organising strategy with the Campaign Committee
- Support volunteers and help organise logistics for street stalls, door knocking, telephone banking and other campaign activities
- Assist with event coordination including forums, dinners, fundraising events and other opportunities.
- Assist with the creation or distribution of digital communication tools and printed materials to support the campaign if required.
- Provide administration support and assistance for the Campaign Coordinator, campaign and candidates as required
- Developing and maintaining professional relationships with Campaign Committee, employed staff, volunteers, local group members, Greens NSW staff and office bearers
- Any other tasks as directed.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS/ SELECTION CRITERIA
- A commitment to Greens values and policies
- Demonstrated experience working with volunteers
- Interpersonal and organisational skills and an ability to work under pressure with competing deadlines
- Sound organising skills
- Sound administrative skills
- The ability to learn and use Greens systems and databases
- Sound political judgement
- A willingness to understand and respect the structure of Greens NSW and the Australian Greens
- A current Working with Children Check or a willingness to obtain one in the first month of employment
- Flexibility and a willingness to undertake evening and weekend work
Note: Successful candidates must not be a current member of another political party.
PREFERRED (NON-ESSENTIAL) REQUIREMENTS
- A current Drivers Licence
- Communication skills
- Experience creating social media content
- Prior experience working on a Greens campaign
PAY AND CONDITIONS
- Salary range: Class 3, $47.37 per hour + 12.5% superannuation.
- Primary Location: The Greens NSW state office, Camperdown
- Hours: 21 hours per week. Some weekends and after hours work will be required. Depending on fundraising and the timing of the election, scaling up to full time in the weeks before election day may be available.
- Length of contract: Contract until one week after the Federal Election
- Position begins: 3 February or as negotiated
- Covered by: The Greens NSW Staff Collective Agreement.
RELATIONSHIP TO OTHERS
- The employer is the Greens NSW Inc (an incorporated association).
- You will formally report to the Sydney Campaign Coordinator
- Day-to-day direction will be the Sydney Campaign Coordinator or another person delegated by the Sydney Campaign Committee.
- You will work closely with the candidate, MPs, campaign coordinators, and other Greens NSW staff and volunteers.
