The Australian Human Rights Commission is based in the heart of Sydney CBD, with flexible hybrid and remote work options available. This full-time, fixed-term position is available for 12 months, with a competitive salary ranging from $111,649 to $124,836 per annum, plus 15.4% superannuation.

About the Team

We’re a dedicated People & Culture team driving strategic programs and operational activities that span the entire employee lifecycle. Our focus is on creating an exceptional experience for every employee, from recruitment through to ongoing development.

The People & Culture team provides expert advice and leads programs across diverse areas of HR; from employee relations, talent management to learning and development, organisational growth, workforce planning, safety and wellbeing.

About the Role

As the Senior People and Culture Advisor (Safety & Wellbeing Programs), you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping and implementing our safety and wellbeing initiatives. Your mission will be to enhance employee engagement, embed psychological safety, and foster a resilient workforce through comprehensive safety and wellbeing programs.

Key Responsibilities

Work Health & Safety (WHS): Design and implement a modern WHS framework that promotes employee wellbeing and integrates seamlessly into our risk management framework. You’ll lead the development of WHS policies and provide expert advice to Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) and the WHS Committee.

Wellbeing: Collaborate with the Director of People & Culture to create a Wellbeing and Culture Strategy. Build a robust program of wellbeing activities, manage our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provider relationship, and coordinate key workplace responsibility roles like Mental Health First Aid and Wellbeing Officers.

Psychological Safety and Psychosocial Hazards: Lead assessments to identify psychosocial hazards, develop effective control measures, and create a Vicarious Trauma approach for frontline staff. Work with HSRs and Section Heads to monitor progress and build manager capability for early hazard identification and intervention.

Respect@Work: Partner with the Senior Leadership team and engage with the Sex Discrimination Commissioner to ensure our Respect@Work approach is a model of best practice and compliance.

  • Proven experience in designing and managing safety and wellbeing programs.
  • Expertise in WHS compliance and risk management.
  • Strong ability to collaborate with various stakeholders and lead initiatives that embed safety and wellbeing into our organisational culture.
  • A proactive approach to managing psychosocial hazards and enhancing psychological safety.
