Established in 1979, Neighbourhood Houses Victoria is the peak body for the Neighbourhood House sector representing a membership of close to 400 independent, community-based organisations across Victoria.

Neighbourhood Houses are the heart of our communities. They bring people together to connect, learn and contribute to their local community through social, educational, recreational and support activities. Also known as community centres, learning centres, community houses or neighbourhood centres, these inclusive community-based organisations welcome people of all ages, abilities and walks of life, creating opportunities for people to enrich their lives through connections they might not otherwise make.

About the opportunity

Reporting to the CEO as a member of the Senior Leadership Team and with 2-3 direct reports, the role offers enormous variety and the opportunity to continuously learn whilst having meaningful and positive impact. The broad remit of the role includes:

  • Financial management – Support the CEO in preparing and monitoring annual budgets; oversee Finance functions including AP/AR, reconciliations and payroll; manage profit and loss; balance sheet, BAS/Tax and other legislative compliance and reporting
  • Governance - Oversee all elements of governance and compliance; maintain records of Board members, Board terms, election processes (if necessary) and AGMs.
  • Risk management - Maintain Risk Framework; manage the delivery of Risk/Audit and WHS Program; Implement and administer business continuity framework
  • Information Technology - Oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of IT, including information security and data protection; Implement IT governance structures and IT strategies; Ensure that business process solutions are ‘fit for purpose’;
  • Member and Subscriber Services - Provide advice and support to Member Networks and Neighbourhood Houses on charity registration, DGR status and ATO self-assessment; Costing and contracting of all fee for service offerings
  • Human Resources - Provide support and back-up to the HR Manager, NHVAssist HR and IR advisory service including Interpretation of relevant legislation and regulation; Performance Management; Reward & Recognition; Work health and safety; Financial aspects of HR/IR including Long Service Leave calculations, calculation of payouts on termination and updating of pay tables

Key requirements

  • Qualifications in finance/accounting and relevant finance experience ideally within a member based or community organisation
  • Relevant experience in information technology solutions at an enterprise level
  • Experience implementing risk management and governance frameworks
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communications skills
  • A collaborative leadership approach
  • Experience working effectively with a volunteer Committee of Management
  • Experience and/or qualifications in employee relations
  • Passion for the Neighbourhood House sector and community development principles
