The Domestic Violence Action Centre (DVAC), a specialised organisation aiding domestic and family violence victims in Ipswich and Toowoomba/Darling Downs, seeks a dedicated individual to fill the position of Family Counsellor at our Toowoomba office. This role entails a permanent-part-time contract with 52.5 hours per fortnight.

Our Purpose: DVAC works with individuals and communities to eliminate, prevent, and respond to domestic and family violence, and sexual violence by:

  • Collaboratively providing quality support services

  • Building awareness and capacity within the community, and
  • Encouraging egalitarian relationships.

ABOUT THE ROLE

In this position, you will provide expert counselling services to women and their children who have been affected by domestic and family violence. Your responsibilities will include case coordination and management, assessing risk factors, delivering services in schools, collaborating with other service providers, conducting risk assessments and safety planning, and providing crisis support and advocacy.

Additionally, you will work closely with other team members to ensure the appropriate support and access for clients. You will also be responsible for managing minor financial delegations and undertaking administrative duties related to service delivery and data collection.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Possession of relevant tertiary qualifications in the psychology, social work, or counselling field
  • Current driver’s licence, Blue Card and evidence of Covid Vaccination (or medical exemption)
  • National Police Check upon successful offer of position.
  • Working knowledge of or the ability to acquire understanding of the Domestic & Family Violence Protection Act 2012 and knowledge of court and legislative proceedings as they relate to the Act (Desirable)
  • Well-developed experience and skills in counselling and therapeutic support
  • Knowledge and skills to ensure the provision of trauma informed services to clients.
  • Knowledge and skills to ensure the provision of culturally, gender and age-appropriate services to clients.
  • Ability to work within the philosophy, objectives and policies of the organisation including: Working within a feminist framework, Working as a member of the staff team & Utilising consultative and collaborative processes
