WHO ARE WE

DVAC has a long history of providing high quality services to women, children/young people and individuals who have experienced domestic, family, and sexual violence in the Ipswich, Toowoomba, and surrounding regions. DVAC works from a feminist perspective. We have a gender analysis of domestic, family, and sexual violence that understands that domestic, family, and sexual violence is a result of systemic power imbalances and inequalities.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a vital member of our team, you will primarily focus on providing specialised counseling services to individuals and families impacted by domestic and/or sexual violence. Your role entails delivering trauma-informed assistance to both adults and children who have endured or are currently facing such abuse. Additionally, you will lead group therapy sessions tailored for those affected by domestic and sexual violence.

Case coordination and management are integral aspects of this position. You will ensure clients receive requisite support and access to resources while promptly addressing any risk management concerns to prioritise client safety. Moreover, you may extend services to schools, specifically aiding women, children, and youth affected by domestic and sexual violence. Collaborating with fellow service providers and maintaining effective communication within the organisation will also be paramount. Finally, you will handle minor financial tasks and administrative duties within the program's budgetary constraints.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Hold relevant tertiary qualifications in psychology, social work, or counselling.
  • Demonstrate extensive experience and proficiency in providing counselling and therapeutic support to individuals who have experienced sexual violence.
  • Possess the knowledge and skills necessary to deliver trauma-informed services to clients.
  • Have the ability to provide culturally sensitive, gender-responsive, and age-appropriate services to clients.
  • Exhibit knowledge of feminist practice and its practical application in addressing domestic and family violence, as well as sexual violence.
  • Display expertise in gender-based violence risk assessment, trauma-informed practice, safety planning, crisis support, and system advocacy.
  • Possess a current driver’s license and Blue Card.
  • Complete a National Police Check upon receiving a job offer.
  • Have a working understanding of the Domestic & Family Violence Protection Act 2012 and court proceedings relevant to the Act.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Possession of relevant tertiary qualifications in the psychology, social work, or counselling field
  • Well-developed experience and skills in counselling and therapeutic support for individuals who have experience sexual violence
  • Knowledge and skills to ensure the provision of trauma informed services to clients
  • Knowledge and skills to ensure the provision of culturally, gender and age-appropriate services to clients
  • Knowledge regarding feminist practice and its application in working against both domestic & family violence, and sexual violence
  • Experience and skills in gender-based violence risk assessment, trauma informed practice, safety planning, crisis support and system advocacy
  • Current driver’s licence and Blue Card
  • All DVAC staff are required to complete a National Police Check upon successful offer of position.
  • Working knowledge of the Domestic & Family Violence Protection Act 2012 and knowledge of court and legislative proceedings as they relate to the Act

  • Capacity Development within Teams: Describe your approach to developing the capacity of team members, particularly in relation to supporting survivors of sexual violence. Discuss how you facilitate skill development, knowledge sharing, and mutual support among team members.
  • Administrative Proficiency: Outline your knowledge and proficiency in various administrative functions essential to the role, such as computer skills, data management, reporting, and communication (both verbal and written). Provide examples of how you have contributed to these functions in previous roles and how your skills enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the team's administrative processes.
