About us:

The Illawarra Women's Trauma Recovery Centre (the 'Centre') is an Australian first community-led initiative, codesigned with women with lived expertise, professional experts and service providers to offer comprehensive and long-term support to women recovering from the trauma of domestic, family and sexual violence. 

The Centre is a project of the Illawarra Women's Health Centre. Established in 1986, we are nationally accredited and provide a safe place for women to access specialised high-quality women's medical and health care services.

We offer various health and well-being workshops, programs, community-based group activities, and support groups. Our services evolve in response to the needs of women and girls in the region, shaped by evidence of effective practice and local, state, and national policy contexts.

The role:

As we expand our reach and impact, we are seeking a dynamic individual to join us as the Head of Implementation and Lived Expertise.

As the Head of Implementation and Lived Expertise, you will be responsible for leading the successful research and knowledge translation components of the Centre’s programs and initiatives while integrating Lived Expertise across the Centre's functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Initiating and leading funding initiatives and applications as chief investigator in applications for research funding to support the Centre
  • Develop evaluation frameworks, performance metrics, and data collection methods for assessing program impact.
  • Analyse data, interpret findings, and generate insights for decision-making and program improvement.
  • Communicate program outcomes and challenges to stakeholders through reports and presentations.
  • Lead and mentor a team, fostering collaboration, learning, and development.
  • Contribute to regular reports on the Centres operations for the Leadership Team, Board, and stakeholders, demonstrating program effectiveness and compliance.
  • Identify risks, challenges, and improvement opportunities; implement strategies to mitigate risks and enhance project effectiveness.
  • Co-create solutions, policies, and practices with individuals with lived experience, community partners, and stakeholders to empower marginalised communities.
  • Facilitate engagement opportunities for lived experience insights to inform program design, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Assisting in shaping significant and strategic research agendas that yield new insights and opportunities to address the traumatic impacts of gendered based violence and abuse.

Essential Criteria for the role:

  • Qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Public Health or related field.
  • Proven experience in knowledge translation and program design.
  • Proven track record in public health and/or domestic, family and sexual violence and or violence or abuse related trauma research.
  • Strong understanding of issues related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice, with a commitment to centering Lived Expertise in organisational practices and decision-making.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience in designing and implementing evaluation frameworks, conducting data analysis, and using data for program improvement and decision-making.
  • Proven leadership experience, with a track record of leading teams, managing complex projects, and achieving results in a collaborative and inclusive manner.
  • Commitment to feminist and social justice principles and the Centre’s values.

Desirable Criteria for the role:

  • Prior experience working in a not-for-profit sector preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of family, domestic and sexual violence, and the impacts of trauma.
  • Fluency in a community language other than English.
  • Experience with working with people from diverse backgrounds and communities, including LGBTIQA+, disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, people with low socioeconomic status, migrants and refugees, and people from multicultural groups etc.
