Positions:

Female AOD Counsellor (Alcohol and Other Drug Counsellor)

Location: 1 x Batemans Bay and 1 x Bega Hours: Full Time Award: Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award (MA000100) Level (4 ) Pay Point depending on qualifications and experience.

Katungul Aboriginal Corporation Regional Health and Community Services is a not-for-profit organisation providing culturally attuned, integrated health and community services on the Far South Coast of New South Wales.

The Aboriginal Drug & Alcohol Counsellors provides culturally sensitive support services to Aboriginal clients and community members impacted by drugs and alcohol. The role involves providing individual support work as well as running groups and community education.

This role works closely with the Clinical Nurse Consultant, who mentors and develops the skills of Katungul Drug & Alcohol workers.

The role is open to, and applications will only be accepted from people who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, under s14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).

The successful applicant will be part of a service that takes pride in the delivery of holistic health care for better health outcomes.

Selection Criteria

  1. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander*
  2. Qualification at a Certificate IV level or higher in drug & alcohol or a related field or working towards same or agreement to work towards same: or equivalent knowledge and skills
  3. Experience working with Aboriginal communities and/or within an Aboriginal organisation
  4. Experience providing one-on-one support to clients experiencing substance abuse issues
  5. Excellent culturally appropriate verbal and written communication skills
  6. Ability to collect data and write reports and client notes
  7. Willingness to work as a member of a diverse team
  8. Current driver license
