Position Context

Kempsey Families Inc. (KF Inc.) is a not- for- profit organisation providing a range of specialist services for  women, children, young people, families/caregivers, and men. www.kempseyfamilies.org.au 

This position as a trainee case worker in the DFSV sector will involve mentoring by existing specialist DFV case workers in most areas of service delivery including training, assisting DFSV case workers and the identified supports/needs of women and children impacted by DFSV. The trainee will also be required to perform administrative tasks, including undertaking training in data entry, case notes, make appointments and researching current trends in DFSV. They will also be included in the planning, implementation and review of community events including in-services with other agencies.

About You

The ideal applicant will have:

  • Identify with and/or be accepted in the local Dunghutti community 
  • Enrolled or working toward tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Counselling ,Community Services or related field and/or equivalent experience
  • Some insight into the impacts on domestic, family, and sexual violence on women and children 
  • Willingness to be trained to understand domestic, family, and sexual violence, child protection and requirements for ethical practice
  • Commitment to working from a woman-centred, holistic, and trauma informed, strengths-based approach
  • Basic knowledge of the local Community Services sector
  • Openness to learning time management and planning skills
  • Ability to build strong relationships at all levels based on trust and collaboration.
  • Capacity to develop a working relationship with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community .
  • Competent administrative and organisational skills
  • Demonstrated computer skills
  • Current Working with Children Check and ability to pass National Police Check
  • Current NSW Drivers’ Licence
  • NSW Health mandated Covid 19 Vaccination Certification or valid medical exemption.

Desirable Criteria

  • Capacity to be flexible, adaptive, and incorporate change in a work environment that is characterised by change
  • Team player who is approachable, with sound communication skills
  • Some knowledge of the service sector across the Mid North Coast
  •  Willingness to undertake required core training
