Through a range of supports including accommodation, legal, health, recreation and social responses, we support women to leave us with restored capacity and greater opportunities for safe housing, economic capability and wellbeing. About the role:

The Peer Support Worker, Family Violence plays a vital role in empowering women who are navigating the challenges of family violence. Through dynamic peer support, transformative recovery-oriented learning, and compassionate emotional guidance, you will create a safe haven for women in refuge accommodations and the wider community.

This is a Permanent Full-Time opportunity based in Melton within our Community Services program. The position reports to the Team Leader, Family Violence (Refuge).

Key Selection Criteria:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Lived experience of family violence including a strong recovery plan and relevant supports in place and a willingness to share and draw on lived experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with women and children facing a range of complex challenges in relation to family violence, homelessness, health and mental health, drug and alcohol use, trauma, and marginalisation.
  • Experience in a peer support role in a community services or not for profit setting.
  • Understanding of the principles of feminism, intersectionality and anti-oppression as both practice and organisational culture foundations.

You must have a:

  • Valid and current Driver’s Licence;
  • Satisfactory Criminal History Check (paid for by MacKillop);
  • Valid Employee Working with Children Check;
  • Valid and current NDIS Workers Screening Check (for risk assessed / client facing roles). MacKillop can assist successful candidates with their application.
