Context

Multicultural Centre for Women’s Health (MCWH) is a national, community-based organisation which is led by and for women from migrant and refugee backgrounds. We advocate and educate to strengthen the health, wellbeing, safety and leadership of migrant and refugee women in Australia.

MCWH works together with migrant and refugee women, community organisations, health practitioners, employers, communities and governments to build and share knowledge, achieve equity and improve health and wellbeing for migrant and refugee women.

Position Objectives

MCWH’s vision is for migrant and refugee women to be free from all forms of discrimination, to have autonomy over their lives, and experience health equity, well-being and safety in society.

For this vision to be achieve, MCWH needs to be led and managed in a sustainable way.

The purpose of the role of Senior Accountant is to provide support to manage the financial performance and daily operations at all level in line with MCWH strategic plan and annual plan, ensuring our organisation is running in a sustainable, impactful and efficient way.

Organisational Relationships

Internal:

The Senior Accountant reports directly to Finance Manager.

Direct Reports:

None

Stakeholders:

MCWH managers, MCWH directors, CEO, relevant federal, state and local government departments, funding bodies, financial and administrative stakeholders, community organisations and financial institutions

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management:

  • Prepare accurate financial reports
  • Ensure the integrity of accounting information by reconciling, verifying, allocating, posting and entering transactions.
  • Prepare payroll journals with full reconciliation and allocate to projects per timesheets
  • Prepare error-free accounting reports and P&L monthly variance analysis.
  • Prepare balance sheet account reconciliation regularly on a monthly or quarterly basis.
  • Analyse the financial statements for any discrepancies and issues.
  • Identify errors and take actions for improvement.
  • Review accounting systems and make suggestions for improvements.
  • Provide support in the month-end and year-end closing process.
  • Prepare all compliances.
  • Prepare and maintain general ledgers.
  • Participate in budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Assist in financial procedures to improve efficiency
  • Prepare and monitor the annual budget and monthly cash flow
  • Assist budget development for tenders and submissions, provide monthly financial reports for managers and manage acquittal reports to funders
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly assessments and forecasts of performance against budget, financial and operational goals
  • Assist in systems improvement to efficiently administer payroll
  • Process of accounts using XERO
  • Reconcile monthly activity, generate year end reports and file tax related and payroll year end requirements
  • Prepare and manage annual audit
  • Ad hoc projects as required

Organisational and Team leadership:

  • Work collaboratively with other managers contributing to the achievement of team results
  • Represent MCWH externally as required
  • Participate in planning, development and evaluation of the organisation

Selection Criteria

Essential:

Technical Requirements & Qualifications

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in financial management
  • High level of knowledge and understanding of accounting, financial and payroll
  • Attention to details
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in a senior finance role
  • Confidence with relevant IT systems, including but not limited to XERO and Microsoft EXCEL

Special Requirements

  • Some evening or weekend work may be required from time to time
  • MCWH operates according to a hybrid home/office working model

Salary & Conditions

  • SCHADS Award level 6, pay point 1-3, depending on experience
  • Salary packaging is available
  • Additional leave entitlement:
    • 5 weeks annual leave for up to 5 years’ service and 6 weeks thereafter
    • 3 days ex-gratia leave between Christmas and New Years Day
    • Additional personal leave entitlements

Period of Appointment

This is a part time position (30.4h/week), one year appointment
