Your new role

As part of the HR team, The Payroll Officer’s role is to process all fortnightly pays and all payroll related matters, to maintain accuracy and integrity of system data, and to assist staff and management with all payroll related queries. As payroll officer, you become and integral part of the HR team.

As a Payroll Officer you will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring the operational aspects of payroll processing and associated activities, including wage/salary disbursements, overpayment recovery, leave management and reporting are accurate and delivered within appropriate timeframes and comply with relevant legislation and within segregation of duties guidelines
  • Providing accurate and timely first round reconciliation of payroll processes including fortnightly pay run and off cycle payments including Superannuation, Tax, Payroll Tax and GL Costing where applicable.
  • Full capability in processing payroll using iChris in line with all payroll deadlines as specified and agreed by HR Manager and business SLA
  • Ensuring the backup payroll officer (non-primary role) is equipped with the skills and knowledge to process payroll during absences.
  • Apply problem solving skills and analysis to implement EBA changes or resolve payroll issues raised through the Customer Support System and apply extensive customer service principals to obtain a desirable outcome

What you will need to succeed

To be successful with Merri you will go above and beyond to achieve great results for our clients, the organisation and yourself. We’re looking for individuals with:

  • 3+ years’ experience in a payroll processing role is essential.
  • Demonstrable experience in superior customer service
  • Exposure to multiple EBAs and high-volume (+500 employees) fortnightly payroll processing will be beneficial
  • Highly developed skills, knowledge and experience in iChris
  • Sound knowledge of payroll legislation and best practice to be applied in the payroll space.
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office - Excel, Outlook and Word
