Communication and Engagement Manager - Self Advocacy Support

MND Australia is the national peak body of state organisations that support those living with and impacted by motor neurone disease (MND). Since 1993, we have been the voice for the MND community. We work collaboratively with our member organisations, the state MND Associations, to inform, influence and raise awareness and understanding of Motor Neurone Disease (MND) at a national level to improve care and to advance research to ultimately end MND.

Our Mission is to improve the lives of everyone impacted by MND through advancing research, advocacy and high-quality care.

The role will work to improve access and navigation of disability, aged and health system supports such as NDIS, My Aged Care, MND multidisciplinary clinics/care, primary and palliative. This will require close collaboration with State MND Associations and the MND Australia team as well as the Lived Experience Network (LEN), to improve the information available and facilitate a ‘one stop shop’ approach to access to this information.

Key components of the role include:

  • Strengthen MND Australia’s capability to develop and deliver self-advocacy activities and support for people living with MND, their families and carers.
  • Development of targeted programs to provide upskilling and capacity-building opportunities for people impacted by MND
  • Equip people with MND, families and carers with the skills, knowledge and confidence to connect with and navigate supports and services that meet their needs
  • Support people with MND to be empowered to ‘speak up’, understand their rights and have greater choice and control.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Project management and communication resource development
  • Codesign and develop MND-related informational resources
  • Funding contract reporting and financial monitoring
  • Program planning, implementation and evaluation
  • Engaging with key stakeholders
  • Facilitating the steering committee and focus groups

About You

  • High-level written, editing and proofing skills, including traditional and digital multimedia
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish and maintain relationships with staff, stakeholders and healthcare professionals
  • Proficiency in project coordination, management and reporting
  • Self-motivated, strong problem solving and multitasking abilities
  • Tertiary qualifications in information/project management, digital communications health or education related discipline
  • A background in working with individuals with Motor Neurone Disease (MND)
  • Knowledge of planning and executing an awareness campaign

Position Type

This is a part-time (0.6 FTE) contract position until 15 December 2026 ideally based in Canberra. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer this role works within the MND Australia team to deliver the projects.
