About the job

MWRC is seeking to appoint an experienced Counsellor / Art Therapist to its Strengthening Families team.

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, this role will provide therapeutic case management and family support services.

You will work flexibly and collaboratively alongside a small legal team, social worker, family support workers and the women’s shelter staff to increase women’s safety.

You will be part of a multidisciplinary group works together to provide wrap-around support for families experiencing family and domestic violence.

This position will be based in the central office located in Fitzroy Crossing. This position will work in the centre, and may also require work in outstations, communities and ‘on country’.

What does a typical day at MWRC look like for a counsellor?

No two days are the same and this isn’t your usual counsellor role. The role is part of a close-knit multidisciplinary team delivering a holistic family centric service.

In addition to providing counselling and therapy support to women, the role also requires you to work alongside professionals from legal and non-legal fields that deliver assistance in the areas of social work support, trauma informed counselling and Indigenous-led support in communities.

You will coordinate the provision of culturally informed, trauma-aware therapeutic support for women impacted by family, domestic or sexual violence in across the Fitzroy Crossing and surrounding communities in the Fitzroy Valley region.

You will provide individual and family counselling services including administering client appointments, conducting client assessment, intake of client needs, and completion of case notes. You will co-facilitate group work and on-Country therapeutic groups and workshops as needed.

You’ll probably learn how to do much of this over a “yarn and a feed”, or while throwing a fishing line at the river.
