MWRC seeks to appoint an experienced Social Worker/Counsellor to its Family Support & Legal Unit (FSLU).
The purpose of the role:
This position will be based in the central office located in Fitzroy Crossing. This position will work in the centre, and may also require work in outstations, communities and ‘on country’.
No two days are the same; this isn’t your usual social worker role. The role is part of a close-knit multidisciplinary team delivering a holistic family-centric service.
In addition to providing social and family support to women, the role also requires you to work alongside professionals from legal and non-legal fields that deliver assistance in social work support, trauma-informed counselling, and Indigenous-led support in communities.
You will coordinate the provision of culturally informed, trauma-aware intensive support and case management for women impacted by family, domestic, or sexual violence across the Fitzroy Crossing and surrounding communities in the Fitzroy Valley region.
You will receive and respond to internal and external referrals and respond to families in crisis. You might participate in community networks and build/maintain relationships with referring agencies, key organisations, community leaders and local people relevant to social issues.
You’ll probably learn to do much of this over a “yarn and a feed” or while throwing a fishing line at the river.
You are a dynamic, passionate, and innovative to join our team.
You will have a demonstrated understanding of the rights and interests of First Nations people and a commitment to decolonising work practices. Ideally, you will have experience working alongside Aboriginal people in trauma-informed, strengths-based ways within a remote context.
Working within a healing, informed, and trauma-aware workplace, you will be committed to decolonising your own approach and work practices.
Please send your current resume and 1-page pitch. Your pitch should tell us more about who you are, what you are passionate about, what interests you about the role and why you may be a good fit for MWRC and this position.
A generous remuneration package with a range of benefits – including subsidised housing, salary sacrifice, and strong support in the organisation is on offer to the right candidate.
MWRC strongly encourages and supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants to apply in line with our workforce development strategy.
