About the role

Are you passionate about making a meaningful impact through strategic HR leadership?

As a key member of the Executive Management Team (EMT), the HR Manager will ensure the delivery of high-quality, efficient, and cost-effective Human Resources services. The role involves leading and providing strategic guidance on workplace relations, work health and safety, industrial relations, and HR service improvements across the organisation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert consultancy and advisory services on HR management and employee relations matters to managers and employees.
  • Interpret and advise on employment legislation and ensure compliance with industrial relations frameworks.
  • Manage relationships with unions, including negotiating and administering enterprise agreements.
  • Lead Change Management initiatives and facilitate positive transformation.
  • Effectively manage the HR Team, offering support, guidance, and professional development.
  • Deliver presentations and training on HR-related matters.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of strategic training initiatives.
  • Conduct workplace investigations and offer advice on grievances, performance management, and conflict resolution.
  • Implement and monitor HR policies and procedures in a cross-cultural environment.
  • Promote health, safety, and wellbeing initiatives across the organisation.
  • Prepare complex HR reports for EMT and the NAAJA Board, attending meetings as required.

Selection Criteria:

Essential:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, Business, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a generalist HR advisory or management role.
  • Strong knowledge of contemporary HR practices, with practical solutions to HR issues.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with experience managing a small team to achieve outcomes.
  • Proven experience in process improvement and project management.
  • High-level understanding of employment legislation, Enterprise Agreements, and Award interpretation.
  • Experience engaging with unions and fostering positive relationships.
  • Strong coaching skills, particularly in handling performance, discipline, workers compensation, and HR investigations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to deliver training.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
  • Proven ability to build productive relationships and influence people at all levels.
  • Cultural competency, with experience working with First Nations people.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office and HR information systems.

Desirable:

  • Experience using HRIS Employment Hero.

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain a “Working with Children Clearance” (Ochre Card) upon commencement.
  • Satisfactory criminal history check.
