Position objective:

This role will provide case work, advocacy and support to Aboriginal families within the Sydney and outer Sydney areas. The Aboriginal Case Support worker aims to build family capacity by providing support to women using partnership, strengths-based and family-centered approaches. Support is provided by the Aboriginal Case Support worker in both group settings and on an individual basis with/for Aboriginal women, 18 years + whom have been affected by the child protection and/or criminal justice systems.

If the Aboriginal Case Support worker identifies as an Aboriginal person then Aboriginal cultural responsibilities will be recognised, with leave considered on a case­ by-case basis, for funerals and sorry business.

The Aboriginal Case Support worker will work in a comfortable, office in Redfern.

Nelly’s Program overview

Nelly’s Healing Centre is an Aboriginal community controlled organisation (an ACCO) support and advocacy service that aims to build resilience with Aboriginal women who are experiencing significant incidences of disadvantage.

The program aims to provide early intervention, prevention services and supports that are aimed at improving the woman’s social wellbeing, education and supporting the capacity of the woman in a parenting role.

Self-determination and empowerment for Aboriginal women are at the core of all Nelly’s Healing Centre’s aims and objectives.

Schedule:

  • 7.5 hour shift and 30 mins for lunch break x 5 days per week = 37.5 hours per week

Essential Selection Criteria:

  • Tertiary qualifications and/or sufficient practical experience in Casework and/or Case Management and/or Aboriginal project delivery
  • Efficient knowledge of computers and all relevant software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint to complete all client data entry and casenotes etc
  • Assist and encourage clients to develop appropriate self-confidence and, where appropriate, assist clients to achieve self-reliance, self- responsibility and self determination
  • Liaise and advocate with other community service representatives and/or organisations, both Government and NGO agencies to achieve the core objectives and aims of Nelly’s Healing Centre
  • Understanding and application to advocate for all clients regarding all relevant external legal legislation regarding criminal justice system, child protection systems (DCJ) and all Nelly’s internal policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated experience in engaging and working with Aboriginal women and families, with high levels of disadvantage
  • Sound literacy in English including reading and writing
  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written
  • Ability to work independently, and as part of a team
  • Solid administration and organisational skills and ability to complete data entry of all case notes and casework into a Case Management Application on a computer
  • Current Driver’s License
  • Current Working with Children Check and Current First Aid Certificate

The Responsibilities and Duties of the Aboriginal Case Support worker:

  • Coordinate and plan, develop and implement a range of educational and empowering experiences to enhance the woman’s learning, confidence and self-determination using Nelly’s Healing Centre’s purposes, values, missions and model of care
  • Provide assistance that increases opportunities for Mothers to have access to activities which develop social networks including participation in activities which aim to increase their knowledge and skills
  • Assist with community driven activities and projects that promote community participation, enhance parenting experience and meet program objectives
  • Develop and mediate relationships with women and families that will support the development of new skills and confidence for the woman
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of all casework delivered by Nelly’s
  • Attend, enhance and maintain community engagement and community partnerships with relevant stakeholders
  • Assist in developing resources for the women to gain access to supported groups and provide home visits if required
  • Resource and support the women with information as requested (where possible or relevant) and to refer women to other relevant organisations where additional support is required
  • Collection, input and regular maintenance of all data of each client into the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software
  • Build a positive culture internally and externally which is aligned with Nelly’s aims, objectives and values
  • Adhere to privacy and confidentiality policies as outlined in Nelly’s Healing Centre’s policies and procedures
  • Adhere and apply to all human resources and operations policies and procedures set down by Nelly’s Healing Centre
  • Always implement, promote and maintain safe work practices in accordance with OH&S requirements.

Reporting requirements;

  • This position reports to and is supervised/directed by the CEO of Nelly’s Healing Centre, and/or delegated person.

Terms and conditions of employment:

Salary and employment conditions in this employment agreement are in accordance and classified by the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award [MA000100] (SCHADS) Award, as published 30 June 2024 and as per the pay rates commencing 01 July 2024 at a Level 4 Paypoint 1

Salary:

  1. $43.08 gross hourly rate x 37.5 hours per week over 5 days at the Community services full-time employee Level 4 - Pay Point 1 of the SCHADS Award. This is neg
  2. Superannuation: 11.5% of gross wage.
  3.  Weekly Salary is to be paid each Friday via EFT from NELLY’S HEALING CENTRE bank account into a nominated bank account provided by the Employee.
  4. Superannuation is to be paid every 3 months to the Employee’s nominated super fund as per the National Standards Legislation.
