About the role

The Prevention Sector Engagement team is focused on expanding Our Watch’s engagement with the primary prevention workforce and sector across Australia, with an overarching aim to increase the skills, coordination and size of those working to prevent violence against women.

Reporting to the Practice Lead, preventing violence against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, the Practice Advisor, preventing Violence against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women will support the Practice Lead to promote awareness and understanding of Changing the picture: a national resource to support the prevention of violence against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women. The role will provide support to build the capacity of a range of stakeholders and organisations across Australia to implement Changing the picture and prevent violence against violence against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women.

This includes building the capacity of non-Indigenous stakeholders to understand their role in preventing violence against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander led prevention work.

This role is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander identified role, in accordance with relevant Commonwealth, State and Territory legislation, applicants for this role must be persons of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent who identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and are accepted as such by the community in which they live.

About you

The successful candidate will have experience relevant to preventing violence against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, contribute delivering capability building activities including delivering training, presentations, and facilitating communities of practice. You will also have experience in stakeholder engagement and project management and have the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

You will be enthusiastic about social change, committed to social justice and gender equality, and have a strong understanding of the impact of intersecting forms of discrimination and disadvantage faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities.
