An exciting opportunity has arisen in our Functional Family Youth Justice Therapy team based in Canberra ACT.

Evidence based services are internationally recognised as having the highest level of research validating the beneficial outcomes for clients. They are characterised by a clearly articulated theory, comprehensive employee training manuals, model adherence measures and on-going quality assurance systems.

The Family Practitioner - Functional Family Therapy (FFT-YJ) is a role within OzChild to strengthen the benefit of services to children, young people and their families in specified areas utilising an evidence based program. This evidence-based program has been developed to support families, with children and youth in the home and the community. FFT-YJ is designed to improve within-family attributions, family communication and supportiveness while decreasing intense negativity and dysfunctional patterns of behaviour. Parenting skills, youth compliance, and the complete range of behaviours (cognitive, emotional, and behavioural) domains are targeted for change based on the specific risk and protective factor profile of each family

What a successful candidate looks like

  • Bachelor qualification in Counselling, Social Work, Family Therapy or Psychology or relevant discipline
  • Knowledge of the Child Protection, Youth Justice and Out-Of-Home Care system, and an understanding of the dynamics of family violence.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of the principles and challenges of supporting vulnerable families.
  • An understanding of cultural contexts and the unique needs of Aboriginal children and young people.
  • Willingness to participate in regular supervision within the context of an evidence based model
  • Understanding of the broad range of issues impacting on the community services sector.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development and maintenance of stakeholder relationships.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and email, plus familiarity with web-based information
  • Must have a drivers license
