About Us 

The Perth African Nations Sports Association (PANSA) is a community not-for-profit organisation with charity status which is directed, driven and informed by the culturally diverse community in Western Australia. We are dedicated to breaking down barriers and providing life opportunities to African–Australians through the medium of sport. For over a decade, PANSA – and its predecessor, the Perth African Nations Football Council – has worked to ease the transition of new arrivals from African nations into their new home in Western Australia.  

Our team has a privileged and crucial role in providing culturally appropriate, safe and respectable sport and community development programs to the community. 

About the role  

With the Play our Way Australian Government Program, we are funded to deliver a three-year program breaking down barriers to sport participation for multicultural females in Western Australia. Our PANSA Peer Leaders Team is a well-trained group with a strong culture in care for community and passion around sport to improve lives and will welcome in new people to undergo some industry-leading training and deliver excellent programs.

We are looking for enthusiastic people to join our team to provide positive experiences to the community. In this varied and flexible role, classified as Peer Leader under Social and Community Services Award 2.1, you will be supporting sport delivery and guiding participants form the multicultural community, and: 

  • Work as part of a team to deliver fun, interactive, engaging and safe sessions and events, with major focus on female sport inclusion
  • Provide mentorship and supervision to people and the activity environments 
  • Provide customer service and administration duties, as required
  • Value excellent service and live a commitment to ongoing improvement  

Reporting to the General Manager, you will assist in the development, planning and delivery of structured and unstructured programs and activities and events in a culturally diverse environment, designed to provide educational and recreational opportunities and meaningful activities that will support the positive development of people in CaLD communities. 

This is a casual position, working regular weekdays after school hours during school term, potential for school holiday work and seasonal Saturdays and Sundays in a roster. 

To be successful in this role, you will have: 

  • Lived experience or personal experience in working with people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) and different religious backgrounds 
  • Strong awareness of issues relating to female multicultural sport participation
  • Understanding of risk management principles 
  • Plan, manage and respectfully deliver structured programs for people in our care, that take into consideration the special interests, skills and needs of people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) and different religious background. 
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including government departments, health services, and community organisations 
  • Maintain a current Western Australia Working with Children Certificate 
  • HLTAID009 Provide CPR and HLTAID011 Provide First Aid certificates with at least 6 months of currency on the certificate, or be prepared to gain such certificate within one-month of appointment 
  • Unrestricted current Drivers Licence 

Ideally you will have or be working towards: 

  • Certificate III or higher in an associated discipline such as sports and recreation, social/community work and/or learning and development 

Position Description 

  • Support sport and recreational activities as required 
  • Monitor attendance and participant safety and wellbeing during activations 
  • Liaise positively with external stakeholders as ambassador for the organisation and the activities

  • Perform other duties as directed (within the skill range of the employee). 
  • Occasionally drive to ferry people and/or transport equipment for activity sessions.

  • Time management, able to multi-task and meet strict deadlines 
  • Able to assist and support youths to find supports for their needs 
  • Sound judgement, problem solving & logical thinking 
  • Administration, reporting, computer applications, MS Office Suite Experience 
  • The ability to network and build strong relationships  
  • Ability to collaborate with others; understands the behaviour, needs and concerns of others and uses this to work effectively with people across boundaries. 
  • Builds collaborative relationships with internal and external clients and stakeholders. 
  • Excellent communication and listening skills. 
  • Able to convey information clearly, accurately, logically and concisely. 
  • To be reliable and have a commitment to fulfil the position. '
  • Ability to establish and maintain appropriate personal and professional boundaries. 
  • Perseveres when faced with resistance; overcomes obstacles and maintains a positive attitude and stable performance under pressure  

Desirable: 

  • Accuracy in administration, able to use databases.  
  • Previous experience within community services environment
