Jenny's Place provides crisis and transitional accommodation and support, early intervention and prevention programs, outreach support and community education to women and children experiencing domestic violence and homelessness in our local community. Established in 1977, their programs deliver integrated case management to assist clients to obtain and maintain safe, affordable housing and referral to appropriate services to meet individual client needs.

About the opportunity

As an Aboriginal Caseworker, you will provide case management and support to Aboriginal women and their children who are experiencing or at risk of domestic and family violence (DFV) and homelessness. Working within the Newcastle Domestic Violence Resource Centre (NDVRC), you will help clients navigate their journey to safety, providing culturally appropriate, trauma-informed care.

Key responsibilities include:

• Deliver case management and advocacy services to Aboriginal women and children experiencing DFV and homelessness.
• Collaborate with other team members and external services to coordinate support, referrals, and intervention plans.
• Promote community awareness and education on DFV and participate in outreach activities.
• Act as an advocate for clients in interactions with legal systems, housing services, health providers, and more.
• Participate in training and continuous professional development to enhance your practice.

About you

We are looking for Aboriginal women who are passionate about helping others and making a positive impact in the community. To be successful in this role, you will possess:

• Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Community Services, or a related field (Diploma level or higher).
• Substantial experience providing case management to Aboriginal women experiencing D&FV and/or homelessness.
• An understanding of trauma-informed practice and the dynamics of D&FV within Aboriginal communities.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build respectful, professional relationships.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.

This is an Aboriginal Identified Position in accordance with Section 14(D) of the Anti -Discrimination Act 1977.

You are required to hold a current driver’s license, Working with Children Clearance and a National Police Check as part of your employment.
