Nova for Women and Children is seeking an energetic and passionate Team Leader to join the team based in the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie regions.

About Nova for Women and Children

Nova for Women and Children (Nova) is a leading community services organisation that provides interim, transitional and outreach support and crisis accommodation options to women and children across the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie regions who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness or who are escaping family and domestic violence.

Nova is the amalgamation of Eva's Project, Lower Hunter Women's Housing and Eastlake's Women's and Children's Refuge and has been operating in Newcastle for approximately 38 years.

About the opportunity

This role will be leading a team of six in a fast paced environment. The purpose of this role is to develop, lead and support the day-to-day on-site operations and team.

Key duties include:

  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality case work and services to support women with or without children who are at risk of experiencing homelessness, including women escaping domestic violence.
  • Provide expert advice, mentoring and guidance to team members, acting as a point of escalation for complex matters.
  • Maintain financial responsibility for the site including brokerage, petty cash, inventory and maintenance.
  • Develop relationships with relevant external stakeholders, taking a lead in networking and collaboration with other service providers to achieve positive client outcomes.

About you

We are looking for a passionate hands-on leader who fosters a positive and collaborative environment with your team. You enjoy supporting your team to thrive in their roles and are focused on delivering best practice service delivery.

  • Demonstrated experience providing high-quality, holistic and women focused case management.
  • Experience leading a small team.
  • Experience and understanding of domestic violence with families and relationships.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
  • Capacity to provide mentoring to less experienced workers.
  • Ability to work from Nova sites located in Newcastle and Lake Macquarie.
  • Participate in the on-call roster as required from time to time.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology and/or related behavioural sciences, or equivalent experience.
