The National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Corporation (NATSIEC) is the national peak body representing Indigenous education. NATSIEC members are Indigenous Education Consultative Bodies (IECBs). In 2018, the IECBs raised the importance of establishing a community-controlled national peak body for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education. In 2023, NATSIEC was established as the peak, independent, community-controlled, national voice on Aboriginal education. NATSIEC is registered with ORIC, a member of the Coalition of Peaks, and sponsored by the Federal Department of Education.
The Principal Policy Advisor reports directly to the CEO of NATSIEC and will work collaboratively with other NATSIEC staff and board. This position was created to provide expert policy advice to the co-chairs and board of NATSIEC. The position is required to interpret education policy and provide briefings and summary documents as required. Additionally, this role is required to establish and maintain effective relationships and networks with key stakeholders through effective negotiation and communication. The position operates with a high degree of autonomy to achieve results in an environment that is frequently changing, complex and presents issues that are often politically sensitive, and which require innovative and sensitive solutions.

You have extensive experience working on complex policy matters and are efficient and thorough in your research and analysis skills. You understand how to develop, interpret and review policy and policy instructions. Your strong analytical and communication skills aid you in your research and review of information before making judgements and reaching conclusions, and to present clear and logical arguments. You have good stakeholder management skills and are a strong collaborator in a team environment. You are self-motivated and can manage your own time to achieve organisational outcomes, while being resilient where you can overcome obstacles.
