The Opportunity  

Spring has sprung! And so has an exciting opportunity at Plan International Australia! The charity for girls’ equality has a 12-month fixed term contract position available as a Campaign Project Lead for the Gender Compass project starting as soon as possible.

The Gender Compass project is unique segmentation research and analysis (initially based on data gathered via 2,522 Australians aged 16 years and over in mid-2023), that defines six segments within the population that differ primarily in their attitudes toward gender equality. For the first time, this provides an opportunity to understand and communicate with different parts of the Australian public about gender equality, to support more targeted and effective actions.

What is it really like? 

The Campaign Project Lead (Gender Compass) will join the Communications team at an exciting time. Phase 2 of the project has commenced, and more research is being undertaken to better understand the segments, which will inform the development of communication tools. The role will be reasonable for the following:  

  • Project management, ensuring project plans are followed, timelines set are adhered to, along with budgetary obligations and deliverables.
  • Design and development of communication tools, and campaign creation. Using research to implement messaging plans and communication guides with sufficient training available. Managing the ongoing process to monitor and update as required.
  • Stakeholder relationship. Partnering with decision-makers and creating open communication pathways to provide project updates to key funders and stakeholders.
  • Administration and reporting. Track and report throughout project lifecycle to all internal and external stakeholders.

Work arrangements.

Our office is in Southbank. We’re looking for someone who can undertake some of their work here, and some of their work at home.

Who are you?  

The ideal candidate for the role will possess a strong understanding of gender issues, intersectionality, and social justice. You may have a background in social sciences campaigning, public policy, or a related field, with experience in communications, data analysis, and project management. Excellent organisational skills are crucial, as you will be managing timelines and a range of project outcomes. Strong communication skills are essential to effectively engage stakeholders, present findings, design communication tools and advocate for gender equality campaigns. Additionally, the ideal candidate should demonstrate a collaborative spirit and a passion for driving meaningful social change.

The core skills we are looking for are: 

  • Proven leadership of effective community campaigning and advocacy campaigns that accomplish influencing goals, preferably in a youth, gender, or international development context;
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities; the capacity to think strategically and create and carry out campaigns; and experience managing research and communication initiatives
  • Excellent timing, a keen sense of "moment," and exceptional insight in identifying what will appeal to audiences
  • Effective time and project management abilities, including the capacity to organise project work so that others may anticipate what will be delivered when.
  • Support for social impact, feminist leadership, and power sharing; alignment with PIA ideals

Hours, pay and start date 

This is a 0.8 FTE part time, 12-month fixed term role.

The pay will align to Level 5 of the - Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award [MA000100]. Hourly pay rate between $ 49.28 to $51.51 per hour.

We are looking for someone to begin in the role as soon as possible, however, can be flexible on start time for the right person.
