About the Organisation

The Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Education Committee Aboriginal Corporation (PYEC) is an Anangu-run organisation that supports education of Anangu in the APY Lands. PYEC oversees education across the APY Lands and runs a number of projects to support the education and advancement of Anangu. PYEC has a close relationship with the South Australian Department for Education.

The APY Lands cover an area in excess of 100,000 square kilometres in northern South Australia and are extremely remote, with the nearest major town being five to six hours away in Alice Springs. The resident population is estimated to be 2,500 people spread across a number of communities and homelands. Predominant languages spoken are Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara, as well as varying levels of English.

PYEC, is funded by the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) to deliver the Remote School Attendance Strategy (RSAS) for the APY Lands in the Iwantja/Indulkana, Kaltjiti/Fregon, Kenmore Park, Mimili, Amata, Murputja, Pipalyatjara, and Pukatja/Ernabella communities.

About the Role

The Pathways Program Manager is responsible for overseeing the strategic development, implementation, and management of programs aimed at facilitating career pathways for students. This role focuses on creating and executing strategies that support career development, educational opportunities, and workforce training initiatives.

Working closely with schools, employers, and community stakeholders, the Pathways Program Manager ensures comprehensive support for students as they transition into further education or employment. By fostering partnerships and leveraging resources effectively, the Pathways Program Manager drives impactful outcomes that empower young individuals to achieve their career aspirations. This position requires strong leadership, collaboration skills, and a commitment to enhancing opportunities and pathways for students beyond their academic journey.

Key Selection Criteria:

  1. Demonstrated experience in designing, implementing, and managing programs focused on career development, educational opportunities, and workforce training.
  2. Proven ability to build and maintain effective partnerships with schools, employers, community organisations, and other stakeholders. Experience in collaborating with diverse groups to foster mutually beneficial relationships and enhance program effectiveness
  3. Strong leadership skills with experience in guiding and motivating teams. Ability to lead, mentor, and support staff while managing multiple projects simultaneously. Demonstrated capacity to drive team performance and achieve program objectives
  4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and persuasively. Effective interpersonal skills for engaging with students, stakeholders, and team members, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment
  5. Experience in managing program budgets and resources efficiently. Ability to allocate resources effectively, ensure financial accountability, and optimise program impact within budgetary constraints
  6. Proven track record in measuring and evaluating program outcomes to assess effectiveness and impact. Ability to use data-driven insights to make informed decisions, improve program delivery, and report on progress to stakeholders

Essential requirements:

  • Proven experience in program management, career development, or related areas
  • Ability to adapt to changing conditions with a flexible attitude
  • Above all, you will demonstrate resilience, honesty, integrity, diplomacy, and a sense of fairness
  • Understanding of the historical and social context of Aboriginal cultures and the ability to approach cultural differences with respect and sensitivity
  • Current residence in Alice Springs, or the APY Lands, or ability to relocate
  • Ability to travel extensively in the APY Lands
  • A valid C’ class driver’s licence and 4WD experience
  • A positive Working With Children Check, and National Criminal History Check

Desirable requirements:

  • A valid MR driver’s licence or ability to obtain
  • 5+ years’ experience in a similar role
  • Strong existing relationships with communities in the APY Lands
  • Ability to speak Pitjantjatjara language
