The Red Rose Foundation works to:
- Advocate, support and respond: to high-risk, high-harm domestic and family violence through intensive long-term counselling, support and advocacy for women who have experienced non-lethal strangulation.
- Research, training and skills development: to enhance knowledge and understanding of high-risk, high-harm domestic and family violence.
- Awareness and prevention: being a voice for change through fearless systems advocacy and whole of community awareness raising.
POSITION OBJECTIVE
Within a feminist framework, provide leadership of the Red Rose Foundation to ensure it provides a high-quality domestic violence service focusing on direct service delivery, education and training, lobbying and law reform. Form strategic alliances and engage in structural advocacy that will assist in delivering enhanced services to women. Publicly promote the agency and raise community awareness of domestic violence through the media.
SALARY AND CONDITIONS
Salary is to be negotiated on a contracted basis for two years, with the option of extension in line with government service agreements. This is a part-time position funded up to 28 hours (four days) per week.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Agency profile, strategic alignment & systems advocacy
- Build the agency profile through:
- building and maintaining the agency as a recognised entity in the community.
- raising community awareness of high-risk, high-harm domestic violence including non-lethal strangulation.
- public promotion in the media including via social media and the agency website.
- consultation with, and provision of advice to, government and other organisations.
- presentations at local, state, national and international conferences to advance knowledge and position the agency as a leader in the field.
- Ensure strategic alignment by meeting regularly with:
- local politicians and relevant ministers to keep them updated on agency activities and priorities.
- police, public prosecutions and court staff to exchange information and monitor legal system interaction.
- broader health, welfare and justice networks.
- Engage in systems advocacy through:
- monitoring government policy and legislation.
- participating in lobbying and advocacy for positive change.
- participating in working groups promoting systemic reform in the area of violence against women.
- submission writing to advocate for public policy and legal reform.
Funding and Agency Viability
- Ensure that the agency remains economically viable through:
- maintaining knowledge of current government and non-government funding sources and building links with relevant professional and service groups.
- developing comprehensive funding submissions.
- considering joint applications for funding and exploring other possibilities for fundraising.
- seeking donations and goods in kind for client assistance and program development.
- ensuring compliance with applicable legislation, regulatory frameworks, and agency service agreements.
Networking, Education and Resources
- Act as the public face of the agency through:
- networking and liaison with both government and other key stakeholders.
- representing the agency at external forums.
- media engagement.
- Ensure that effective education is conducted including:
- planning and initiating awareness and prevention campaigns.
- developing and coordinating training for other professionals, and delivering other activities throughout the year, especially during Domestic Violence Prevention Month.
- maintaining current knowledge of the application of legislation, research and other data related to the area of violence against women.
Organisational Management
- Exercise managerial responsibility for the effective, efficient and accountable day to day functioning of the agency within constitutional and contract parameters. This includes, but is not limited to:
- day to day decision making.
- implementation of the Strategic and Operational Plan.
- compliance with industrial, taxation, workplace health and safety, and other relevant legislation.
- monthly reports to the Board of Management, as well as periodic reports to the funding body and annual report to the Association members.
- attending Board of Management meetings.
- the development, operationalisation and periodic review of policy and procedures in conjunction with the Board of Management.
- oversee collection of statistical data for accountability, research and needs analysis.
- overseeing safety and maintenance of premises, vehicles and agency assets.
Human Resource Management
- Maintain responsibility for the overall supervision of any volunteers, students, employed staff and contractors. This responsibility includes but is not limited to:
- staff recruitment, induction and training in conjunction with the Senior Counsellor.
- organisational supervision and performance management of staff.
- providing workforce development opportunities within budget.
- ensuring effective team communication and that all staff regularly access clinical supervision.
Client Service Delivery
- Oversee timely, effective and ethical service provision to women who have experienced non-lethal strangulation who access the Strangulation Trauma Centre. This includes:
- crisis telephone support.
- face to face counselling.
- support and information provision.
- group work.
- individual advocacy.
- assistance with referrals and access to other services and resources.
- supporting women through legal/medical processes.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
- Ability to articulate a feminist analysis of domestic violence and its relationship to other issues affecting women.
- Qualifications in social work, behavioural or social sciences, and qualifications/experience in managing women’s services.
- Demonstrated skills in lobbying, structural advocacy and forming strategic alliances at a local, state, national and international level.
- Ability to create community awareness of domestic and family violence through education and media.
- An understanding of all legal aspects pertaining to violence against women.
- High level of self-awareness, with well-developed oral and written communication skills.
