About Resilient Lismore
Resilient Lismore is a grassroots, community-led disaster recovery organisation that first formed after the 2017 floods in Lismore, NSW.
We are a community based charitable organisation supporting residents in Lismore and in surrounding communities in their recovery by connecting them with volunteers and trades to repair their homes; donated goods and materials; and information and services.
Our purpose is to mitigate the impacts of poverty, disadvantage and suffering that result from natural disasters, through the mobilisation of both spontaneous and formal offers of help in the recovery effort.
Position Summary
Resilient Lismore is seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Operations to join our organisation and contribute to our mission of enhancing community resilience.
This role involves strategic planning, process optimisation, and team leadership to ensure the efficient functioning of various departments. As the Operations Director, you will play a pivotal role in improving organisational processes, enhancing productivity, meeting compliance requirements, and fostering a positive work environment.

Reporting to: Executive Director
Responsibilities:
1. Operational Strategy:
- Develop and implement operational strategies to align with the organisation's goals and objectives.
- Identify areas for process improvement and efficiency enhancement across departments.
- Collaborate with staff to streamline operations and ensure seamless communication and coordination
2. Operational Leadership & HR Management:
- Provide strategic guidance and leadership to ensure the efficient and effective operation of Resilient Lismore.
- Lead and inspire a team of 8-10 staff fostering a collaborative and high-performance work culture.
- Oversee the Hub Manager and their management of the Lismore Hub including their team of volunteers
- Manage HR for Resilient Lismore, fostering best practice for Award based payroll & contractors, systematic performance and remuneration reviews and professional development opportunities.
- Recruit, train, and mentor operational staff to enhance their skills and competencies.
- Support the Executive Director & Development Director with the HR management of all non-operational staff
3. Process Optimisation:
- Analyse existing processes and workflows to identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies.
- Implement improvements and standard operating procedures to optimise productivity and quality of work.
- Utilise technology and automation where applicable to enhance operational efficiency.
4. Financial Management, Budgeting & Resource Allocation
- Collaborate with the Executive Director & Director of Development to create and manage the annual budget, ensuring financial sustainability.
- Working with the contract finance officer, monitor and control operational costs to ensure fiscal responsibility.
- Oversee the Hub Manager and their effective management of organisational resources, including equipment and facilities.
- Negotiate contracts and agreements with vendors and service providers to obtain the best terms and pricing.
5. Quality Assurance:
- Develop and implement quality assurance processes to maintain high standards of service or product delivery.
- Monitor and assess performance metrics to ensure compliance with organisational quality standards.
- Address any deviations or issues promptly and implement corrective actions.
6. Risk Management and Compliance:
- Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to safeguard organisational assets and reputation.
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards
- Ensure company policies are up to date and relevant to the current operational practices of Resilient Lismore
- Manage company registers such as Board and insurance related documents
- Manage and oversee WHS instilling a culture of wellbeing and safety
7. Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Working with the finance officer, prepare quarterly and annual financial reports for review by the Board.
- Support the Executive Director in reporting to the Board and stakeholders as required.
- Analyse operational data and metrics to track performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Prepare regular reports for Executive Director on, operational achievements, challenges, and future plans.
- Monitor expenditure against grant funds and assist with acquittals as required.
8. Emergency Preparedness
- Support the Hub Manager to develop / maintain contingency plans and protocols for emergencies and unforeseen events.
- Ensure staff members are trained and aware of emergency procedures to guarantee the safety and well-being of employees and stakeholders.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Proven experience in a senior leadership role with a strong systems focus, ideally within the not for profit or community development sector.
- High level of digital literacy and proficiency with project management software (e.g. Monday.com), Xero, Microsoft Word, and other relevant software platforms.
- Strong knowledge of compliance requirements and experience managing contracts.
- Exceptional leadership and team management abilities, with a track record of building and developing high-performing teams.
- Experienced with HR.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work well under pressure.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; a master's degree is preferred but not required.
Highly Desirable:
- Lived experience in Disaster Recovery
- A strong interest in Community Resilience and Preparedness
- Knowledge of home repair / renovation and building standards
- A strong connection to the Northern Rivers
Working Conditions:
- Office-based environment with occasional travel for meetings
- Flexible work hours may be required to address operational needs and emergencies.
