Value opportunities to enhance your practice? This senior role sits within the SANDBAG Team - a multidisciplinary group of talented and friendly professionals and volunteers whose passion is to see our diverse community connected, resilient and thriving!
The Sandgate and Bracken Ridge Action Group Inc (SANDBAG) has been supporting north Brisbane communities for over 30 years. Our mission is to improve the wellbeing of individuals, families and communities by creating opportunities for connection, participation and support. Operating from our Community Centre base in Sandgate and our counselling hub in Bracken Ridge, our core team of 12 staff and 30 volunteers work together to create safe places of welcome, care, inclusion and practical support for all community members.
SANDBAG has extensive relationships with local NFPs, businesses, QPS, elected representatives, schools, service clubs, faith communities and community groups. These connections generously and actively collaborate with us to host events and celebrations, as well as to alleviate poverty, isolation and hardship. If you do this job, you do not need to do it alone.
SANDBAG Inc is seeking an experienced DFV Women's Counsellor for a full-time role with our counselling team. Using individual, group work, community education and community development methods, this position will support women and their children impacted by family violence on their journey of healing and recovery. Our holistic approach, that also pays attention to immediate needs, social and economic inclusion and participation, is supported by SANDBAG's Neighbourhood Centre and training and employment programs.
This senior role is a new position, designed to complement our existing DFV Counselling team of three - Team Leader; Women's Counsellor; Child and Family Counsellor.
Your role will enable us to better respond to the high demand for counselling support. You will also work with the team to develop and co-facilitate group responses to 'hold in' women on our waitlist for counselling. Additional groups may be developed in response to expressed needs of our victim-survivors, including for education on DFV and coercive control and support for parenting children impacted by DFV.
SANDBAG works with local partners to educate about healthy relationships and the prevalence and costs of domestic abuse. This role gives you the opportunity to co-deliver projects with partners such as schools, youth ATSI and LGBTIQA+ committees and the local PCYC.
To fit with our SANDBAG team you'll need a commitment to social justice and inclusion, a hands-on attitude, compassion, curiosity, and playfulness. If you are from a First Nations' background, a person with disability, and/or identify as LGBTIQA+ we encourage you to apply.
