Sera's Women's Shelter is seeking a passionate and experienced domestic violence specialist to support women and children escaping violence by providing appropriate resources and support to empower women to gain independent and safe accommodation. You will be able to recognise the effects of domestic violence on women and children, provide culturally appropriate support, and enable the woman to meet her needs for safety and long-term goal setting.
There are 2x positions available that consist of both on the premises and on call work for a 12-month contract with the possibility of extension:
- 32-hour position with a Tuesday to Friday working week (8.30am - 5pm) and;
- 68-hour per month position that would require you to be available 2x weekends per month from Friday to Monday and half day Thursdays.
It is a requirement that this position is filled by a woman, as under s113 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, sex is a genuine occupational requirement.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Within the parameters of best practice in case management and crisis support: manage the day-to-day effective running of Sera’s Crisis Accommodation Service, undertaking the daily tasks required in a residential and crisis accommodation setting, and prioritise the needs of the residents in terms of safety and meeting their goals;
- Provide crisis counselling and appropriate referrals to link women into relevant community resources available to meet their practical needs and resolve their concerns;
- Conduct evidence-based risk assessments within the context of Domestic and Family Violence including completing safety planning;
- Understanding of the Domestic and Family Violence Practice Principles and information sharing guidelines within a feminist framework;
- Maintain up to date and confidential records for all residents that include ethical and accurate case noting, as well as completing and collating individual statistics;
- Participate in an on-call roster to provide a 24-hour service;
- Undertake other tasks as requested by the Coordinator or Team Leader to ensure operational requirements;
- Where appropriate, undertake professional supervision of Social Work and Community Welfare students from the University and TAFE.

SELECTION CRITERIA
- Possession of, or working towards a degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Human Services (demonstrated experience working with women in the domestic and family violence field will also be considered).
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the effects of domestic violence on women and children from a feminist perspective; including relevant legislation (Domestic and Family Violence Act 2012, Child Protection Act 1999, and DFV Information Sharing Guidelines).
- Demonstrated crisis intervention, case management, and trauma-informed practice skills.
- Experience in working with women from Indigenous and other cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to work both independently and co-operatively within a team environment.
- Sound knowledge, or ability to acquire knowledge of local community organisations and demonstrated networking skills.
- Excellent written/oral communication skills and competency with technology systems.
- Possession of a current driver’s licence.
- Positive Notice or ability to acquire Positive Notice of a Working with Children Check (Blue Card).
