The Youth Lead is pivotal to the success of the Foyer Foundation. This role is responsible for ensuring that Advantaged Thinking and young people with lived experience are at the heart of everything that we do – our Governance, strategy, advocacy and day-to-day efforts to ensure Foyer integrity.

Leading a small team, and working with the Foyer Foundation leadership team, the Youth Lead will develop and deliver a range of programs that embed lived experience and Advantaged Thinking in our work and in our efforts to shift power towards young people in our society, policies and and systems.

You will lead the development and delivery of learning content and training that will equip the Foyer Foundation team, Board, network and our partners to put young people at the heart.

Who you are (essential):

  • You have exposure to or experience working with and coaching young people;
  • You have a growth mindset and are comfortable working in an evolving start-up environment to manage multiple competing priorities and projects;
  • You have developed and implemented a youth program or service offering and/or have experience embedding an Advantaged Thinking approach;
  • You understand the importance of using Advantaged Thinking language and practice in your day-to-day;
  • You are a people person, who thrives working in collaborative environments whilst also excelling when working independently;
  • You are solution-minded and a capable problem-solver;
  • You have excellent communication, interpersonal and management skills with experience managing internal and external stakeholders;
  • You have experience leading and managing a small team of people;
  • You believe every young person deserves a thriving future and are prepared to work effectively with young people who have lived experience of homelessness and create the space for them to lead;
  • You are someone with experience in the not-for-profit sector or the capacity to quickly learn about the non-for-profit-context;
  • You are proficient in the Microsoft and Google Suite of applications.

Key responsibilities

  • Working with the CEO and Leadership team, deliver on the Youth Strategy and develop plans to further embed and involve young people in the Foyer Foundation governance, strategy, service development, advocacy and our day-to-day operations.
  • Oversee and manage the delivery of existing and future Youth programs, including support to identify and agree priorities for young people within programs and provide coaching and development support.
  • Manage the development of the Youth Ambassador program, overseeing the Youth Coordinator in the day-to-day delivery of this program ensuring young people are equipped with the skills and opportunities to influence systems, service development and programs.
  • Develop standardised and bespoke tools, content and resources that uphold Advantaged Thinking to support the Foyer Foundation team, Foyers and our partners to work with young people and amplify Lived Experience.
  • In partnership with the Head of Collaboration and systems influence, undertake research and document learnings to advance the impact of Lived Experience on shifting mindsets, services, policy and systems.

Who we are:

Our purpose at Foyer Foundation is to unlock thriving futures for young people aged 16-24 who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. We do this by growing the reach and impact of Youth Foyers. Youth Foyers provide a safe and stable home for up to 40 young people, integrating housing, education, employment and life skills supports, all under one roof.

There are currently 16 Youth Foyers across Australia, and we are in an exciting phase of growth and momentum working towards 50 Foyers by 2030.

Youth Foyers are delivered by a vast network of service providers, big and small, across Australia, working in communities in regional, remote and metro locations.

The role of the Foyer Foundation is to connect up this network and align activities nationally, gather evidence and insights, ensure quality Foyer services through learning and accreditation, and advocate with young people and our growing network. We play an entrepreneurial role, driving innovation and continuous learning and improvement across the Foyer network.

We are a networked organisation. We have a small core team and strong relationships with many external partners and collaborators, working together to achieve our collective goal of 50 Foyers by 2030.
