The Smith Family is a children’s education charity that helps young Australians experiencing disadvantage to create better futures for themselves through harnessing the power of education.

We are seeking a Volunteer Engagement Advisor to join our organisation. Reporting to the Volunteer Engagement Team, Team Lead and working alongside dedicated, energised, and passionate team members, you will provide guidance and advice to team members various volunteer engagement matters, helping ensure The Smith Family volunteers, and those managing them have a mutually beneficial experience.

About our role

You will be responsible for:

  • Guide team members to align local practice with the National Standards for Volunteer Involvement.
  • Participating in or leading projects related to areas of volunteer management/expertise.
  • Create action plans and or recommendations to support volunteer engagement strategies.
  • Provide input to discussions about new programs/events to ensure a planned approach to volunteer involvement.
  • Assist team members in designing successful strategies for attracting volunteers (based on a community asset approach).
  • Assess risk and provide guidance to volunteers and team members about screening requirements and assist team members in progressing volunteer clearances.
  • Identify and implement learning opportunities on a range of topics that build volunteer management capabilities amongst Smith Family team members.
  • Coach and advise team members on a range of volunteer engagement issues– including grievances, complaints and difficult conversations.

About you

As well as passion for community, you will bring the following:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in human resources, teaching, communications, or social and community services
  • Experience collaborating with and managing volunteers, as well as working with staff who oversee volunteer programs.
  • Experience in facilitating training or presenting to various groups
  • Exceptional ability to establish and maintain internal and external networks and relationships
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Forms.
