SNAICC – National Voice for Our Children is growing quickly and continues to expand its policy team as it takes on many exciting systemic advocacy and research projects that will improve the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.

The Position

SNAICC is working in partnership with Aboriginal Peak Organisations Northern Territory (APO NT) to deliver child and family policy reform initiatives in the Northern Territory including the scoping and design of a Peak Body for Aboriginal children and families and the development of a child and family sector strengthening plan and market strategy.

The Senior Policy & Research Officer will lead SNAICC’s contributions to this work through establishing strong working relationships with APO NT, working collaboratively to deliver policy research, analysis and engagement and delivering high quality project outputs within the required timeframe and budget. The incumbent will also research and draft high-quality policy advice, briefings, reports, submissions, resources and other project documentation related to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child and family policy in the Northern Territory.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Demonstrates capability to work effectively to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders to progress policy outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • Has previous experience in policy development, social research and/or advocacy
  • Has strong writing skills, including developing reports, submissions and papers, and has demonstrated capacity to research, analyse, understand and write concisely about complex social policy issues
  • Has strong project management skills including the ability to work collaboratively with project stakeholders, develop and implement project work plans and meet deadlines.

  • Research and policy development, with high-level leadership, policy and sector representation
  • Training and resource design, development and delivery including topics such as early childhood development, partnerships, family support, trauma, and cultural competency
