  • Part time – 14-21 hrs, based in Ulladulla and Nowra to work across South Coast (Nowra – Eden)

The Southern Women’s Group Inc is recruiting for the South Coast Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service. This service assists women who are experiencing domestic and family violence by providing support through advocacy, risk and safety assessment and referrals.

We are seeking women with excellent communication, interpersonal, organisational and advocacy skills. You will have a commitment to empowering women and children affected by domestic and family violence and have demonstrated ability to engage effectively with clients in crisis.

Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification of this role. An Aboriginal person is defined under section 4 (1) of the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1938 (NSW) as a person who:

  • is a member of the Aboriginal race of Australia
  • identifies as an Aboriginal person
  • is accepted by the Aboriginal community as an Aboriginal person.

Being a woman is a genuine qualification for this position and is exempted under s.31 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.

Employment is under the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award and is subject to Working with Children and Criminal Record Check.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • An understanding of the complexities and consequences of domestic and family violence, particularly as they affect Aboriginal women and children.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the criminal justice response to domestic and family violence.
  • Ability to work with local Aboriginal communities to promote awareness of domestic and family violence and WDVCAS services.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

The role is remunerated under the Social, Community, Home Care and Disabilities Services Industry Award 2010.

Superannuation and annual leave loading are paid, and salary packaging is available.

You will need a current driver’s license and a well maintained and insured motor vehicle for this position. Reimbursements are paid for travel in the course of your work.
