ABOUT THE ORGANISATION

Southern Women’s Group (SWG) Inc is a not-for-profit community service based on the South Coast of NSW. We are a feminist-based organisation, and our vision is to ensure that all women are safe, respected, empowered and supported to flourish.

SWG Inc provides auspice for the Women’s Resource Centre (WRC) in Bega, through grant funding from the Department of Communities & Justice (DCJ). It also provides auspice for the South Coast Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service (SCWDVCAS) through NSW Legal Aid. It is the Court Advocacy Service for the Eden, Bega, Moruya, Batemans Bay, Nowra and Milton Local Courts. Our highly skilled and professional staff provide trauma-informed, client centred and culturally safe support to clients.

The organisation is dedicated to providing essential resources, information, referral, material assistance, workshops and activities, advocacy, safety and opportunities for social inclusion, ensuring that women have the knowledge and support they need to make informed choices for themselves and their children who are currently, or who have previously experienced domestic and family violence. We provide referrals to legal and specialist supports. We assist with safety planning, case management and case coordination. We maintain offices in Nowra, Moruya and Bega, and the NSW South Coast offers an abundance of lifestyle opportunities for those seeking a rewarding and fulfilling career in a beautiful location.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Women’s Resource Centre (WRC) is often the first point of contact for women in the Bega Valley experiencing domestic, family and sexual violence (DFSV).

The role of the Specialist support worker will be to provide the following services, including working collaboratively with SWG’s DVCAS staff and other community organisations:

  • Family and domestic violence services.
  • Sexual violence services.
  • Support and advocacy to access housing and accommodation services.
  • Referral to legal support and court-based services and.
  • Other generalist or specialist services providing support for DFSV victim survivors.

Applicants must have a commitment to empowering women and children affected by DFSV, an understanding or willingness to learn the principles of a trauma-informed approach to service delivery, have a demonstrated ability to engage effectively with clients from diverse backgrounds and have a demonstrated ability to engage effectively with clients in crisis.

The successful applicant will hold tertiary qualifications in a relevant field e.g. social work, community services or working towards acquiring these qualifications, and/or demonstrated substantial experience in domestic and family violence service provision. They will possess demonstrated sound organisational, administrative, and management skills.

This position is open to female applicants only. SWG Inc considers being a woman to be a genuine occupational qualification for this position under section 31 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).

The preferred applicant will be required to hold a valid driver’s license, and have, or will acquire, a Working with Children Check and a National Police Records Check.

The position is for 35 hours per week and is Classification Level 5.1 of the SCHADS award.

The primary work location is Bega, but you may be required to work at other SWG locations from time to time.
