About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and professional (part-time) Counsellor to join our team. This role is crucial in providing support to women navigating complex trauma, due to domestic and family violence, mental health issues, and homelessness. As a Counsellor at SpeakOut, you will engage with clients using culturally sensitive approaches, conduct comprehensive assessments, and prepare reports to support their applications to various government authorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Counselling & Support: Provide one-on-one counselling services and case coordination for women dealing with domestic, family and sexual violence, mental health issues, and trauma.
  • Client Engagement: Use of empathy and strengths-based assessments to support clients.
  • Assessment & Planning: Assess client’s needs through tools such as the Clinical Counselling Assessment Tool and create tailored support plans.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to ethical and legal obligations.

Selection Criteria

  • Qualifications: Tertiary qualifications in Counselling or related field and
  • A member of the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) or Australian Association of Social Workers or related accredited body or eligible to be one.
  • Experience & Expertise: At least two years of proven experience in counselling and case management, particularly with complex trauma and domestic violence.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Demonstrated ability to engage with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds with empathy and respect.
  • Knowledge: In-depth understanding of the issues faced by migrant women, including domestic violence and homelessness.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a supportive team environment.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Ethical Practice: Sound knowledge of ethical and legal obligations in counselling.
