This role offers a unique opportunity to develop skills to provide support and advocate for women and children affected by domestic, family, and sexual violence (DFSV).

About the Role

As a Trainee Domestic, Family, Sexual Violence Officer, you will:

  • Assist in providing case management support to migrant and refugee women and children in a culturally sensitive, trauma-informed manner.
  • Support the delivery of comprehensive services to clients by working alongside internal experts and external specialised services.
  • Learn to ensure compliance with regulatory and organisational obligations, especially legislation related to DFSV.
  • Participate in research, data collection, and preparing case studies.
  • Participate in relevant interagency networks.
  • Support clients who cannot speak English and assist them to communicate with relevant authorities.
  • Maintain client confidentiality and privacy.
  • Participate in training and development opportunities, as needed.
  • Always ensure personal safety and the safety of colleagues and clients.

Qualifications

  • Relevant tertiary studies (completed or ongoing) in social work, community services, or a related field or willingness to study.
  • Strong interest in working with migrant and refugee women and children.
  • Basic understanding of domestic violence dynamics and issues facing migrant and refugee women.
  • Willingness to learn and develop case management and advocacy skills.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and internet research.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professional integrity.
  • NSW Driver’s license and insured motor vehicle.

Desirable

  • Understanding of the function of government and non-government agencies that support victims of domestic/family violence (Police, Local Courts, Community Services, Housing).

Conditions of Employment

  • Working with Children Check (WWCC) and National Police check.
  • Being a woman is a genuine occupational qualification for this position under section 31 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).
