About the Role

The Women Safety and Gender Equity Project Officer is responsible to drive holistic approaches to gender justice for migrant and refugee women using an intersectional lens, including DFSV, outcomes under the SSI’s Women and Girls Strategy, awareness raising events and campaigns and associated policy and advocacy work.

This is a maternity relief position until 30 April 2025.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Take insights from DFSV casework and practice at SSI into an advocacy environment at different sector meetings and advocate for migrants and refugees, especially new arrivals, and their needs to be seen and considered.
• Research issues relevant to working with DFSV victim survivors from migrant and refugee backgrounds and develop responses to government inquiries, contribute to consultations across the three states SSI is active in and draft funding applications from time to time.
• Drive outcomes under SSI’s Women and Girls Strategy across the organisation.
• Organise and support key events throughout the year such as International Women’s Day and 16 Days of Activism.
• Participate in the broader activities of SSI and the Division of SSI the role sits within.
• Other duties as directed from time to time within your skills range and capacity.

Essential Criteria

• Relevant tertiary degree qualification
• Proven research skills, including consulting communities and peers
• Highly developed interpersonal skills
• Experience developing Community & stakeholder plans and delivering engagement strategies
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills including drafting of advocacy and policy papers
• Ability to establish and maintain effective partnerships with internal & external stakeholders

Desirable

• Proven experience of advocacy with a focus on systemic change, preferably within the multicultural sector and communities
