About the Role

As the Work Health & Safety Specialist, you will partner, consult, educate and provide specialist advice and guidance to managers and staff on all things WHS to contribute to a safe working environment, whilst driving initiatives across the business to make SSI a safe place to work.

Reporting to the WHS Manager, you will be pivotal in driving SSI Groups’ WHS strategy and promoting a safety culture. Your role will involve creating an environment where people are inspired to generate ideas and solutions and create a culture of ownership and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement initiatives in line with the SSI WH&S Plan that mitigate risks, builds leadership capability, and drives a safe work environment.
  • Assist key stakeholders to implement effective strategies, plans and control measures within program and functional areas.  Provide current legislative advice as required
  • Ensure Safety policies and procedures are maintained and fit for purpose
  • Coordinate SSI’s Safety Committee to ensure effective and engaged members
  • Manage First Aid and Fire Warden registers, participants and ensure appropriate training is provided
  • Deliver safety audits, workplace assessments and reviews & communicate findings
  • Work with Facilitates to coordinate offices for inspections and assessments and attend as required
  • Manage reasonable workplace adjustments requests, procedures, and process
  • Injury Management and Workers Compensation including management of claims and establishing RTW plans in conjunction with the manager and their HRBPs
  • Identify risks and hazards and develop mitigation strategies
  • Produce management and board reports to show trends in emerging issues and resolution strategies

Essential Criteria:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or experience in Workplace Health & Safety
  • Knowledge and experience with the WH&S Act, regulations and standards within a diverse setting
  • 5+ years’ experience in a relevant, similar role
  • Ability to build strong partnerships with stakeholders to influence, consult and deliver outcomes
  • High Level of written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to Detail
  • Ability to prioritise with a can-do attitude and solutions focus
  • Passion and Commitment to Safety and a continuous improvement mindset
