Family Law Solicitor

Sussex Street Community Law Service
  • This role has the capacity to be between three to five days per week.

Sussex Street Community Law Service (Sussex Street) is the oldest and one of the largest community law centres in Western Australia. We are staffed by lawyers, advocates, financial counsellors, paralegals, volunteers, and administrative staff. We offer legal and non-legal services to residents of Victoria Park and surrounding suburbs. We also have two specialist programmes: representation of Respondents to FVROs and disability law & advocacy.

This is a role for a Court based family lawyer and therefore requires experience with Family Court work. The role also includes casework. The majority of the work we do in this programme involves some degree of family violence.

This role is made for someone who is passionate about social justice and the community. You would join a large group of like-minded individuals dedicated to ensuring access to justice is protected for those who need it. You will have stimulating casework while also being involved in discussions and submissions on policy and law reform. It can be a fast-paced workplace but you will be well supported by managing staff and your work colleagues.

You must have 2+ years experience in the Western Australian family law system and a significant history of Family Court work.

You will also have the opportunity to work across a diverse range of intersectional family law programs including our Restore telephone legal advice service (usually for clients who may have just been served with a FVRO), Shuttle Conferencing Service, Duty Lawyer Services (Magistrates Court 58 and the Family Court) and delivering Community Legal Education.
