Sussex Street Community Law Service is one of the largest community legal centres in Perth. We have three branches: East Victoria Park, Belmont, and the Perth CBD. We run a place-based generalist practice in East Victoria Park, a disability specialist practice in Belmont, and this Respondent's practice in the Perth CBD. We are a busy centre dedicated to serving the people in our community by not only providing specialised services but also identifying gaps in people's access to justice.
This role is for our Family Violence Restraining Order program. It is an innovative, early intervention program where our lawyers represent Respondents to Family Violence Restraining Orders to reduce breaches of FVROs through early intervention. It has been partially responsible for a decrease in the breach rates of Family Violence Restraining Orders in the state.
You would be joining our busy Family Law practice working in the Magistrates Court and on Outreach programmes working with people who are street present or other vulnerable members of our community. You will also prepare and present community legal education and be part of policy and law reform from time to time.
You will have the opportunity to work across a diverse range of intersectional programs, including our Restore telephone legal advice service (usually for clients who may have just been served with a FVRO), Shuttle Conferencing Service, and Duty Lawyer Service (Perth Magistrates Court.)
This role is based in Irwin Chambers on Irwin Street, opposite the Magistrates Court in the Perth CBD.
Applications open until position is filled.
We will begin interviewing candidates on receipt of applications.
