The Role

St Vincent's Institute of Medical Research (SVI) is concurrently recruiting for a permanent part-time Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager and a Health, Safety and Wellbeing Coordinator. This job ad is for the Health Safety & Wellbeing Manager.

The Health, Safety & Wellbeing (HSW) Manager will work closely with the institute's Managers/Lab Heads and staff to promote the continuous improvement of the health and safety environment at SVI ensuring compliance across the organisation.

This role is expected to positively influence and drive forward the agenda for a positive health and safety culture at SVI, including assuming responsibility for the development, implementation, assessment, and review of a comprehensive occupational, health and safety management program, and the development and delivery of a coordinated set of initiatives to improve safety outcomes and mental wellbeing in the workplace.

In collaboration with Managers/Lab Heads the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager will implement safe work practices, policies and procedures. This role will also manage training programs for staff, students, visitors, and contractors as well as managing the Emergency Response and Environmental compliance across the business. In addition, this role will also supervise the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Coordinator.

A part-time arrangement of 1 to 2.5 days per week (7.6 -19 hours) is on offer for this role.

Who we are seeking

We are looking for an enthusiastic and driven HSW Manager with:

  • Tertiary qualifications in OHS
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in health and safety management, with a proven track record in implementing successful programs and achieving compliance.
  • Strong Knowledge of OHS legislative frameworks and associated Australian standards, regulations and codes of safe practice
  • Experience in the application of safe practices, hazard identification and management in a laboratory environment
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory processes, standard laboratory equipment, chemical handling and storage
  • Demonstrated ability to encourage a strong and positive safety culture across the organisation

To be considered you shall be required to provide evidence you have permanent working rights in Australia or hold a relevant visa with full working rights, as well as being fully vaccinated for COVID-19. You will also be asked to undergo a police check.

Salary Range: $104,237 to $121,612 (pro-rated to either 0.2 or 0.5 FTE) per annum, plus 11.5% superannuation. In addition, we offer up to $15,900 FBT exempt salary packaging and up to $2,650 FBT exempt meals and entertainment packaging. Salary applied will be dependent on successful candidates' current level, experience and qualifications.
