ABOUT TEWLS

TEWLS is a not-for-profit, specialist women’s legal service focused on the advancement of women’s rights. Based in beautiful Darwin, we provide integrated, holistic, trauma-informed, and culturally secure free legal and support services to women and non-binary people living in the Top End of the Northern Territory (primarily, the Greater Darwin region), including free legal advice, casework and representation, information and referral, community legal education, and advocacy in the areas of civil, family and migration law.

We are an accredited community legal centre, a member of Women’s Legal Services Australia, and as a front-line women’s service, the majority of TEWLS’ clients present having experienced or experiencing domestic, family and sexual violence.

TEWLS provides a vital role for women in the Top End. At an individual level, the service responds to and facilitates women’s experiences and realities, with specialist and responsive legal services. At a systemic level, clients’ collective experiences establish a salient foundation and platform for informed service advocacy and calls for systemic improvement and change.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Under the supervision of the TEWLS Client Support Lead, the Client Support Officer will work within TEWLS’ client support practice, with focus on enhancing TEWLS’ integrated services to women and non-binary persons, including but not limited to DFSV safety planning, systems navigation assistance, and social supports. The Client Support Officer will work alongside legal and client support staff to provide high quality, culturally secure and holistic legal services, working directly with clients to support positive outcomes and liaising with service stakeholders and partners. The provision of organisational and administrative assistance within TEWLS are also a component of this position.

Notably, TEWLS’ specialist practice provides meaningful, varied, interesting, and complex social support and legal work, within a supportive and trauma-informed environment.
