  • Hours: 5 hours weekly at a selected time

Position Purpose

Bicycle Mechanic Course Instructor - Women & Gender Diverse is responsible for delivery and evaluation of the bicycle mechanic’s course. The role will work closely with the committee to run the Bike Shed’s first iteration of this public facing bicycle mechanic’s course, designed specifically for women and gender diverse participants. The position is partially funded through course enrolments and requires the applicant to recruit participants and deliver content for 6 weeks. The curriculum has already been developed, but the applicant will also be responsible for refining and amending the content in coordination with committee feedback. As a contract employee, invoices must be provided to the Bike Shed Treasurer, along with an ABN.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver course content for a beginner 6 week bicycle mechanics 101 course, similar to those previously undertaken at the Shed
  • Refine and further course content with a view for future course delivery.
  • Develop and promote course enrolment prior to start date
  • Work with Bike Shed Committee and Bike Shed managers to find a time that works with the Bike Shed schedule
  • Deliver 6 weeks of 3 hour content to up to 8 public facing participants
  • Collect and deliver feedback to the Bike Shed committee throughout duration of course
  • Create a safe and inclusive space for women and gender diverse people to learn about bike mechanics and form relationships with each other and with the Bike Shed
  • Develop and deliver a comprehensive evaluation following completion of the course
  • Encourage a diverse community at the Bike Shed

Required Qualifications

  • Strong organisational and communication skills with excellent presentation skills that promote quality learning outcomes through
  • Strong bicycle mechanic knowledge and skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate with colleagues, and volunteers
  • Ability to work independently, without supervision
  • Commitment to supporting the Bike Shed’s mission
  • Commitment to open and direct and regular communication with the Bike Shed committee
  • Commitment to inclusiveness for women and gender diverse constituencies
  • Passionate about bicycling as an agent for positive change
