About the opportunity:

Uniting is currently seeking a therapeutic caseworker to join our team in Coffs Harbour NSW. As a therapeutic caseworker (MST-CAN), you will provide casework support using the Multisystemic Therapy for Child Abuse and Neglect model. This community-based treatment model targets families with children aged 6 to 17 years old where there is ongoing physical abuse and neglect.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of the team.
  • Work closely with MST-CAN model developers and local intermediary agencies.
  • Provide MST-CAN model support to families in their homes.
  • Deliver services within a culturally inclusive framework for Aboriginal and culturally diverse families.
  • Facilitate and participate in the development and review of family treatment plans.
  • Establish and maintain community networks when required.
  • Ensure activities and operations within the scope of responsibility are performed within the allocated budget and policy guidelines.
  • Maintain clear and concise documentation of casework efforts.
  • Collaborate with all relevant systems to ensure cooperation throughout treatment.
  • Participate in all model program training, supervision and consultation activities.
  • Perform safety checks and respond to emergencies as needed.
  • Provide on-call support as required.
  • Assist therapists in gathering information and resources for clients.
  • Engage primary caregivers and other key participants in active, change-oriented treatment.
  • Assist in practical needs such as housing, budgeting, job attainment and recreational activities.
  • Support clinical team and parents with children’s school adjustment.

Your Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, Social Work, Childhood Education or a related subject area.
  • Approx. 3 years of experience working with families in a therapeutic setting.
  • Experience working with families in a community-based setting and within the child protection and court systems.
  • Experience managing safety concerns and family safety risks.
  • Knowledge of behavioural therapy targeting behavioural change in children at home and school.
  • Understanding of cultural and strengths of families within the MST-CAN population.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and on-call as required.
  • Current driver’s license and willingness to transport families in company vehicles.
  • Current NSW WWCC
