About the role

The role of the Kinship Care Case Manager is to be the primary contact and support for kinship carers the children in statutory kinship care placements. You will regularly visit the children in kinship care and identify the training and support needs of kinship carers, particularly non-Aboriginal kinship carers in terms of their cultural competence and connection to the Aboriginal community.

Other aspects of the role involve:

  • Provide ongoing case management support to carers and children involved in statutory kinship care placements.
  • Identify children’s needs using the Looking After Children framework and the resources needed to meet these needs as well as completing LAC documentation.
  • Accurately update and maintain client data on the CRISSP and CRIS electronic data systems.
  • Prepare quarterly reports, court reports and Best Interests Planning reports for each allocated child in a kinship care placement.

About You

To ensure that you have every chance of succeeding in this role, the right candidate will possess:

  • Demonstrated awareness and appreciation of Aboriginal societies and cultures, and commitment to continually build knowledge of such, along with a high level of awareness of the key issues which impact upon Aboriginal people.
  • Demonstrated experience of case management, preferably experience in OOHC or related fields.
  • Experience and understanding of the OOHC programs and Child Protection case management practice.
  • A developed, or commitment to develop, understanding of the Aboriginal Kinship system and Aboriginal placement principles.
